How I saved $52.62 today.

The Internet has sure changed the way I shop and I assume that's so for most of you as well. Today I needed two small electronics items, a 2 GB SanDisk MicroSD card for my phone and a USB 2.0 cable for my new printer (printers often don't come with cables included anymore, which is lame).

Here's what the MicroSD card looks like:

Here's what the printer cable looks like:

So I went over to the Best Buy store to purchase these items. Luckily, I had checked prices online a little first. Otherwise I wouldn't have known how high the prices were. When I got there, the memory card was $34.99 plus tax and the printer cable was also $34.99 plus tax. The total with tax was $75.05.

Instead of purchasing right then and there I decided to wait and then look up prices online again. I purchased the memory card online for a total of $14.49 shipped and the printer cable for a total of $7.94 shpped. Not only that, but I got a 10-foot printer cable instead of a 6-foot cable. Thus, my total expense was $22.43 ,saving me $52.62.

That's $50 more in my pocket. Strong.

I find buying certain things online to be difficult. One example would be pants. You just gotta try on a pair of pants before you buy them. Having said that, learning to use the Net to buy most things is probably penny wise and pound wise too.

Captain Jack's Gravatar That's the price of conveinance...most people wouldn't want to wait a week or more for their cable to ship. I'm not sure Best Buy is in much competition with the cheap cable companies online. If you want further proof, price some HDTV cables online vs. a consumer electronics store.

beachstu@yahoo.com's Gravatar The 6 vs 10 ft length is a common length....when I was a Frys I noticed the same difference you found online. I wonder what a more reasonable price Frys would have been here...certainly not like Best Buy.
I bet it would have been a lot closer to the online price...I also wonder if your card was new...but anyway I would say good job in clicking and shipping. Oh yea...finally...could have beat it at moving/garage sales, but may have taken a few months...
