Atlantic City
Understandably vexed by LVA's dysfunctional "Comment" feature, which posts responses seemingly at whim -- it's even eaten some of my own -- a reader sends the following missive, in response to yesterday's melodramatic comparison of an Atlantic City casino to the Guantanamo Bay penal colony:
I'd feel more sympathy for the smoke stained dealers if they didn't appear to be engaging in unhealthy lifestyles otherwise. Like the rest of America, the average dealer looks overweight, doesn't exercise, AND knew there was smoking in the casino when they went to work there. These people knew what they were getting into when they persued those jobs. I don't mind them trying to change the rules, but I do mind them being self righteous about it, or claiming a moral high ground.
Noted. Though I do rather fancy the notion of chaining Osama bin Laden and his diabolical associates to an Atlantic City Hilton craps table, in the "smoking" section and forcing them to muck dice for hours on end, choking upon the noxious fumes of cigarettes and cheap cigars.
