First word on Believe. "Horribly bad" was the initial eyewitness description I received of media night for Cirque du Soleil's new Criss Angel extravaganza, which reportedly features dismemberment, bunny cannibalism and other family fare. (Let's put it this way: The clowns are the least disturbing element, I'm told.) Cirque has already sent in a snooty French Canadian to issue some pre-opening special pleading.
To no avail. Richard Abowitz likens Believe to the movie Showgirls. And not in a good way.
Harrah's sharpens the axe. Impending job losses were cited as a reason not to implement Atlantic City's smoking ban. So the ban was banned. Result? Job cuts at Harrah's Entertainment properties -- with more to come.
The newest "Vegas Gang" podcast is online, in what seems like record time. No Chuck Monster this time, which further dampened the spirits around the telephonic table. You can tell how the economy is wearing on our psyches just from how short some of our discussions are becoming.
I'm pretty sure Believe will go down as the point when Cirque rested on their laurels. Luxor can't seem to catch a break in the show department.
