Those schoolyard swipes that Steve Wynn and Sheldon Adelson love to exchange are finally wearing on the patience of Las Vegas' best gaming reporter, Liz Benston. (When I was at the Las Vegas Business Press, beating the Review-Journal to a story was a routine occurence; stealing a march on Benston was a rare coup and an occasion for rejoicing.)
You may have already read the Times of London story here in S&G. A clearly fed-up Benston chides America's third- and 86th-richest men, saying that "the usual trash-talking is sounding more like a World Wrestling Federation event than a title fight ... All of this testosterone comes off as desperation," she adds. Benston also picks yet another factual flub out of the article, noting that Strip revenue in 4Q07 was off 1%, not the -19% reported by the Times. (How did I miss that? Ich bin ein Dummkopf!)
"Now that," Benston concludes, "would be something to scream about."
