Don't believe me? Read it for yourself. Such praise he heaps upon the senator from New York! Lord Voldemort is even more laudatory of her than he is of Sen. John McCain. But since Rove was complicit in the shameful sliming of McCain during the 2000 primary season, I doubt anyone would believe it if he started heaping warm fuzzies on the Republican nominee-to-be.
Then again, Rove may just be returning the favor of Sen. Clinton's de facto endorsement of McCain: "I know Senator McCain has a lifetime of experience to the White House. And Senator Obama has a speech he gave in 2002." (See it here.) As James Fallows writes ...
"To produce a clip that the McCain campaign could run unedited every single day of a campaign against Obama? That is something special."
By the way, now that Sen. Obama has floated the possibility of making outgoing Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) his secretary of defense, I'm liking his candidacy even more. When it comes to straight talk, Hagel makes even McCain look like a wallflower.
A metaphor-rich environment: Now that Bush II's presidential library has been awarded (?) to Southern Methodist University, The Chronicle of Higher Education has launched a whimsical contest for potential designs, with the proviso that they be executed on the back of an envelope. You can view the results, watch contest video and even vote on the finalists. It's better than American Idol!
Make of it what you will, but recurrent themes are cruciform shapes, underground bunkers and structures that appear to float in the air with no visible means of support. There's also a W-shaped concept and something resembling a Mayan temple.
Some of these designers are imaginative folks and perhaps should be put to work brainstorming the next generation of "casino-based destination resorts," to dust off an old Steve Wynn coinage. After MGM Mirage rolls out City Center, the bar will be set dauntingly high for all who follow.
