Harrah's,The Strip
Isn't it nice and inspiring and heart-warming as all get-out to know that while shooting victim Tom Urbanski and his family were struggling through eight surgeries, renegade NFL player Adam "Pacman" Jones was livin' large at Caesars Palace, staked 20 grand in casino credit -- markers that Harrah's Entertainment now wants back. It's even sicced the majesty of the law upon Jones, treating us to the edifying spectacle of District Attorney David Roger acting as an errand boy for Harrah's CEO Gary Loveman.
Urbanski's family is going through hell because his job put him in the line of danger the night that Jones, needing to one-up rapper Nelly, decided to "make it rain," with catastrophic results. Caesars made the strictly optional decision to extent credit to a someone in deep legal trouble and with dim employment prospects in the NFL. (He's been "traded" to the Dallas Cowboys, but that's fairly meaningless when your low-life ass has been suspended from the league.)
Nobody forced Caesars to give $20,000 in markers to "Pacman." It was a stupid business decision and Harrah's should eat the loss. (As opposed to the recent Charles Barkley dustup, which involved far more money but also a gambler whose ability to pay was not in doubt at the time.)
Aren't there better things for Roger to do? Like probe the mysterious death of "Buffalo" Jim Barrier ... or the done-on-the-sly, cavalier remodeling work performed by ahem, Harrah's?
(Or find out why the Las Vegas Weekly's search engine doesn't work worth a damn?)
