Yesterday, our "Today's News" page reported: "An eight-screen, 1,300-seat, digital-projection cineplex is being added to the Pahrump Nugget Hotel & Casino, slated for a Memorial Day 2009 opening. 'VIP seating [and] a large-scale children’s arcade' are promised. Casino owner Golden Gaming is building the movie theater itself, while it looks for an operator. Other features of the expansion are an enlargement of the gaming floor that will accommodate 200 additional slot machines."
Times being hard all around, it looks as though Golden decided it could expand the Nugget or buy nearby Saddle West Casino/Hotel & RV Park, but not both. On the off chance that you're interested (and would prefer not to drive out to Pahrump and see for yourselves), here's the Nugget as it presently stands:

... and off to the right will be the cineplex:

No Free Lunch Dept.: Hey, remember the guy who promised he wouldn't raise taxes, come hell or high water? Yeah, that guy. It looks like Gibber the Fibber found a way to do it after all. Which means, if casino-employee meals are now taxable, is that one less perk to which Nevada casino workers can look forward? I'd really hope not but, given that we're in a recession, I doubt the industry is going to -- pardon the pun -- just eat $150 million in meal taxes. Comped meals for players? Sure. Free lunches at the employee cafeteria? I fear not.
My boss doesn't give me free meals.
And I think the "Gibber" is doing what's right for the majority of Nevadans; not raising taxes in these troubled times.
Also, it is possible to stand firm while the house burns to the ground.
