... to piss people off, that is. Now he's got two state legislators calling for a re-bid of the casino contract. Saying that Barden's deal with Neil Bluhm is a "bait and switch" is a mite strong. But it does put one (politically juiced-in) investor in a position to control two casinos in Pennsylvania's two biggest markets -- and without having to go through the licensing process vis-a-vis Pittsburgh. Allowing Don Barden to remain the nominal licensee without having any equity in the casino does rather smack of a sham, which is why the indignant solons want his license pulled.
As for the still-stalled Majestic Star casino, it sort of fits with Pittsburgh history. After all, this was the home to the original bridge to nowhere, 28 years in the making. Come to think of it, since the Fort Duquesne Bridge empties out near Heinz Field, it's probably the route you'd take to Don Barden's "casino to nowhere." Nor would this be the first Pittsburgh project that had trouble making the numbers pencil out.
