It's been four months and we sure don't hear much about "Viva,"Station Casinos' attempt to one-up CityCenter. (Bigger! More expensive! Worse location!)

"Viva seems certain to draw criticism from skeptics who say Las Vegas is building beyond its market," Liz Benston wrote at the time. "The same was said at the announcement of CityCenter and later projects, including Boyd Gaming Corp.’s $5 billion Echelon complex." (emphases added)
Now all one hears about is Durango Station. Did the banking community laugh Viva out of the room? Or did Station, for all its bold talk about building for five and 10 years from now, decide to quietly file Viva away until a time when proposing an off-Strip über-metaresort begins to take on the aura of plausibility?
An afternoon well-spent: A big "thank you" to everybody who did the hard work that resulted in Saturday's Podcast-a-Palooza (at The Palms). All I had to do was show up and ask George Maloof a question. So copious thanks are in order to Hunter Hillegas of "The Vegas Gang," Tim and Michelle Dressen of "Five Hundy by Midnight," and Steve Friess and Miles Smith of "The Strip Podcast." It was also a great opportunity to meet blogosphere noteworthies like "mike_ch" (he of the invaluable "Strip Walk" reports on RateVegas.com/blog or "Jeff in OKC" and his lovely wife, Lisa, to say nothing of "Vegas Gang" co-conspirators David Schwartz, Jeff Simpson and "Chuck Monster" (whose sweet disposition belies his nom de 'Net). It went by in a flash, a good time was had by all, and Carrot Top doesn't look nearly as scary in person.
