No question, Sen. John McCain is a man of the people: Here he is, rubbing elbows with the average Joe player at a Bellagio craps table. No slinking off to a high-roller lounge for the presidential aspirant, in this undated photo. And let me say that it's nice to see at least one Vegas tourist who doesn't regard a casino visit as a chance to get in touch with his/her inner slob. While the ball cap/T-shirt/shorts/flip-flops ensemble is becoming de rigeur on the Strip, I've seen customers walking the casino floor in even less than that. Maybe George Clooney's then-ridiculed call for a Vegas dress code wasn't so far out, after all.

Wow. Thanks for the link. I was going to weigh in on this story at my usual stately pace, but it's spreading like a prairie fire. The DNC ad is bogeyman stuff that's typical of the intelligence-insulting level of both campaigns, from whom I expected much better. Silly me.

I tried to comment here with the NYT story the other day, but for some reason my comment didn't get through.

I feel most of the anti-intellectual stuff from the left this year are these kinds of party ads as well as the occasional 527 that slips off the reservation, and that aside from that Spanish Limbaugh advert and the "hey guys he can't use a computer!" web video they've been pretty tame to actually fight back. But then again, I am so partisan right now that I may have lost all sense of perspective.

Amen to the dress code, David. How people who babble about how cool the Rat Pack was, and supposedly want to act just like them, can be such slobs is beyond me.
