Hot air at Harrah's

In the course of reading some of Jean Scott's observations (always a valuable learning exercise), I came across this Wall Street Journal profile of the troubles at Harrah's Entertainment. I'd seen it before but one thing struck me afresh. One of the ways that CEO Gary Loveman planned to save money was by slowing down investment in technology. So why did his CFO recently liken present-day slot machines to pre-World War II products, especially if keeping pace with technology is now a low-priority item? I guess this is the new line of blame-shifting at Harrah's: "It's the slot makers' fault!"

GREGRIO's Gravatar Harrah's might be slowing down investments in technology at many of their properties but at the RIO...for the first time (in a long time) I've noticed new 'lease' slot machines in Masquerade Village, the old Club Rio is opening again, Masquerade Tower is going through some 'new' room renovations...all this in the objective of slowing down investments while the new Caesars tower is put on HOLD???
I think the rumors of a FOR SALE sign going up in front of the RIO is closer than it's ever been...

OTC's Gravatar What makes this even more entertaining is that Loveman built his academic career talking about meterics and analytics, thisngs yhat require a huge investment in technology.

He even wrote the foreword in "Competing on Analytics"
