Sometimes, in the course of trying to mulch umpteen news stories into blogorrhea, one's memory ceases to be a reliable source. For instance, I wrote that New York-New York was spared from MGM Mirage's recent spate of year-end writeoffs, which it was. However, in the process, I lumped it in with a clutch of former Mandalay Resort Group casinos that were also exempted from the writedown process. NY-NY was, though it seems centuries ago now, the brainchild of Gary Primm, the man who gave the world Buffalo Bill's. Consequently -- and despite several MGM-led makeovers -- it will never be the Big Apple quite so much as the Big Cheese. My apologies, though, for the error.
One also sometimes fails to make the connection between disparate stories that are just sitting there, begging to be compared. For instance, on the same day that we learned Harrah's Entertainment CEO Gary Loveman will be making $1.9 million in 2009 it was also announced that new Las Vegas Sands President (and first-time casino executive) Michael Leven will pull down $100K more than Loveman. The latter hasn't been the most successful CEO in gaming but this is preposterous.
Carlini interruptus: Media night for Trent Carlini's Elvolution has been postponed until April 24 (even though the show has been open for over a week as of this writing). Which theoretically frees me up to attend media night for Gordie Brown at the Nugget d'Or. However, I've got a great opportunity to rearrange my sock hamper that night. Or maybe even watch some paint dry.
