The following sounds like it was drafted by a Ministry of Propaganda somewhere but it is an honest-to-god Venetian/Palazzo* press release:
"On August 22, The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas welcome the '2009 Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant of the Americas.' Showcasing their beauty, compassion, vigor, fortitude, and intelligence, the 16 contestants will vie for the ‘Americas’ title to go on and compete in October 2009 for the worldwide competition of the '2009 Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant.' Capture the excitement of the winner of the 2009 Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant of the Americas following her crowning.
"The pageant will initially air on Phoenix Satellite Television throughout North America and South America then extended to Phoenix TV’s worldwide audience."
I see that "intelligence" takes a distant back seat to "beauty" among the criteria. Some things never change.
* -- The official stationery has been modified to include a subhead which spells out "The Venetian/The Palazzo®" in Chinese characters. (OK, it could be a recipe for all I know.) It will be interesting to see if this is the new "standard" look or just a one-off.
