Quote of the Day

Posted At : September 16, 2009 01:03 PM | Posted By : D McKee

S&G yields the floor to former President Jimmy Carter:

Runner up, among many choice quotes, goes to South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian: "I think [Rep. Joe Wilson]'s conduct was asinine, but I think it would be asinine no matter what the color of the president.  I don't think Joe's outburst was caused by President Obama being African-American. I think it was caused by no filter being between his brain and his mouth." (Harpootlian knows Wilson from way back.) And, as a former South Carolinian, let me say, please don't boycott the Palmetto State. (Even though they still have a hangup about casinos down there.)

Meanwhile, in its fruitless search for comity at all costs, the White House turns a blind eye to the whole mess. Which ought to remind us that all it takes for evil to triumph is for people of good will to do nothing.

Health care "reform": It's out and it stinks, basically. It incorporates the one truly bad, deal-breaking idea of the '08 McCain campaign by making health benefits reportable as income. But don't worry: Sen. Harry "Hapless" Reid (D-NV) promises to make the bill even worse.

I have only five words remaining: You da man, Jay Rockefeller!

Kerr Mudgeon's Gravatar The Baucus bill is a mess. I agree with those who protest that he went too far in attempts to get gNOp support... and his hope to get it later will fail, too.
The SouthWillRiseAgainicans are still taking their cue from Rush: "I hope he fails!", in the hope that their intransigence will win them control of Congress in 2010. They DO NOT care what's good for the nation; they only want to please "the base" [adjectives deleted].
The Baucus bill is a mess. It only goes about 15% of the way we need to get real health care improvement. The Democrats should just write a GOOD bill, including a public option, and pass the darn thing.
The Baucus bill is a mess. The White House should have just written a GOOD bill, including a public option, and sent it to Congress for both houses [to fiddle around with a little bit] to pass.
The Baucus bill is a mess. The Democrats, with [Reid &] Obama input & support, should amend it to create REAL change, then pass it with/without gNOp votes.
As the good effects of a REAL health care reform law take effect, the defiance will wane over time.
Then the gNOpers will scramble to take credit for whatever they can claim their opposition did to improve it.

Steve Taylor's Gravatar Jimmy Carter was one of the worst presidents ever. His remarks are so off base. According to Carter,if
you don't follow lockstep with Lord Obahna, your a racist. BS to you Mr. Carter. It just shows how out
of touch you are with reality.

Hugh's Gravatar Yea, yea, yea, it must be racism Mr. Carter. From Reagan to Giuliani to votes for McCain, liberals pull the cry wolf card. If we don't vote for Obama its racism, if we don't smile ear to ear on at the swearing in, well, yes, racism and if you try to fight government takeover of healthcare, well, yes, racism. Fight illegal immigration, racism. Fight a massive deficit underwritten stimulus, racism. Not that there needs to be an unmistakable racist rally or speech or even remark, that would be asking too much when people like Carter and Maureen Dowd can simple put words in mouths. Hey, you know what, I heard Joe Wilson has a white pickup, you know what that means!

Jeff in OKC's Gravatar OK, but, nobody has any "I saw Jimmy Carter sloppy drunk at the Tangiers" stories?
