This is the sort of bottom-feeding move you'd expect from Columbia Sussex but not from Hyatt. Suffice it to say that if casino-hotels try this cheapjack number in Atlantic City, Detroit or Las Vegas, there will be holy hell to pay, especially the next time the collective-bargaining agreement is up for renewal. As it is, some hotels (*cough*Tropicana Las Vegas*cough*) have tried to operate with skeletal cleaning staffs and one shudders to imagine the consequences.

"Loux said the new workers will make $8 an hour and receive no benefits, based on information from a Hospitality Staffing Solutions employee. Staffing firm president Rick Holliday sent out an e-mail stating his employees made competitive wages but didn’t answer further questions."
- Apparently "Mr. Rick" & Hyatt consider $8/hr & no benefits "competitive wages"... in relation to China, I guess.
Guess what? In the US, it's a quick descent into poverty.
- I expect to see this rolled out to Hyatt properties nationwide; first to non-union houses, then to all the others as union contracts end.
- Most of the fired employees will be left with NO health insurance, and no way to get some that they can afford (if they can get any at all if they have "preexisting conditions"). Somebody should warn Boston hospital emergency rooms that they will host another batch of uninsured people, thanks to Hyatt shareholders.
- Beck & Limbaugh will crow about this triumph of the free enterprise system, and complain if union "thugs" try to make this an issue of fairness; Lou Dobbs will say that all 100 are obviously illegal workers, so should be exported to [somewhere] immediately so as to make room for real Americans who will happily work for $8 an hour, with no benefits.
- Oh, yeah... The gNOpers in Congress will continue to fight any change to our $billions-profitable health insurance business, since we have "the best health care system in the world".
