Are you interested in the Mob era in Las Vegas history? Then you might want to attend a lecture by Dennis Griffin, author of The Battle for Las Vegas, the story of Chicago mob enforcer Tony Spilotro in his Vegas days. His story was told in the 1995 hit movie Casino but with much dramatic license. Griffin will use clips from the movie to highlight similarities to and differences from the real events he describes in his book.
This presentation is at 11 a.m., Feb. 20, at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive in Las Vegas. Although " Las Vegas and the Mob" is free, you must register in advance at 702-455-7340.
If you have other interests besides gambling in Las Vegas, I would like to recommend an Internet resource that is a rich source of local non-casino activities like the above – Vegas4Locals. There are lists galore: Vegas coupons, local events, free things to do, community information - hundreds of things to do in Vegas, whether you live here or are just visiting. You can also subscribe to their free monthly e-newsletter that is packed with the latest Las Vegas discounts, coupons, events and auctions.
