Just got home from spending two nights at Palazzo. I love staying in their suites, but I have some suggestions for their improvement.

1. A grab bar in the shower. I exercise regularly and am in pretty good shape for my age, but standing on one leg to wash the other takes a bit more limberness than I have.

2. A coffeemaker in the room. Why are they disappearing in Vegas? So we will buy expensive drinks at expensive coffee shops? Or, use overpriced room service?

3. Larger labels on their toiletry amenities so seniors can read them in the shower without their glasses. Brad used shower gel for shampoo – and that wasn’t too bad a mistake. But hand cream instead of conditioner? It took me all day to figure out why his hair was so greasy.

Harry Porter's Gravatar Ah yes, the ultimate cure for split ends! Been there :) Of course, I attributed it to inattentiveness after a late night's play. (I got a clue when my attempt to rinse seemed to just work it up into a gel.)

All I know is that labeling wasn't at fault about 10 years ago when I found myself at home brushing my teeth with something from a tube that turned out to be rather foul. (No toothpaste was nearly as effective in "killing the germs that cause bad breath".)

Patricia Swenson's Gravatar Many years ago, after spending the night at "Chez Jackessiebabe",
my dear Mother-In-Law grabbed a spray can of furniture polish,
which had carelessly been left on the bedroom dresser, and
proceeded to vigorously polish her hair!

She was late for work that morning, as a quick trip to the beauty shop
was necessary in order restore her lovely hair to it's original
condition.

Sandy Abramovich's Gravatar Caesars had a product line that was impossible to read - silvery lettering and I don't wear my contacts in the shower! I had a similar episode where I conditioned with lotion, yuk:( I wrote them a letter about it when I got home, nover got a response back, but when we were back a few months later they had a new product line with dark lettering, yay!

Harry Porter's Gravatar Babe, I'd say that was taking the concept of "hair lacquer" a step too far ...

jeanhaka's Gravatar I did this at Silverton as the body lotion and creme hair rinse all
looked the same. The hair on my legs was soft--very soft!-- that
day!

Maggie's Gravatar It is my understanding that the lack of coffee makers in the large hotels on the Strip has to do with the city fire code ordinances.

John Taylor's Gravatar Agree on the coffee. It is hard to find a morning outlet for coffee that doesn't have a 30 minute wait. If the Twin Falls, Idaho Holiday Inn can provide coffe in their room the strip hotels can do it. At Caeser's it is $10 plus service charge and tip for room service and that is two cups.

Esther's Gravatar I almost choked from laughing so hard! BUT it is sooo true!
I can barely read my bottles at home let alone the ones in the hotels.
And as for coffee...Jim and I dont totally wake up at the same time so
I am left sitting there craving a cup of coffee, or I run down by myself.

Jean, I totally enjoy your blogs and past columns. I hope to be much
smarter in Vegas because of YOU!

Greg Williams's Gravatar I was told that the coffee makers in the room were outlawed by the health alth dept. Their view is that the coffee makers and pots need to be sterilized after use, meaning the hotels have to do this every time a guest checks out. In case anyone stays downtown, the Vegas Club will put a coffee pot in your room if you request one at check-in.

Jack Stevens's Gravatar My wife and I have stayed at the Fremont for many years because they treat us like family. For the asking,
Housekeeping will deliver a coffeemaker to your room.

Sue's Gravatar Such fun to start the day with a chuckle! I can just see Brad's shiny hair, I can certainly unferstand the mistake.
Larger print on the shower ammenities would be smart! Keep up the good work.

Maggie's Gravatar More on the coffee scoop (pardon the pun). I found the inquiry I made of Vegas4Visitors author Rick Garman about two years ago, and his response:

Question: I understand the concept of "get out of your
room and spend money," but do any Las Vegas Strip
hotels have in-room coffee makers? I've only been to
Vegas twice. First time I stayed at the Flamingo (I
won the trip from a radio station). The second time I
stayed at the Bellagio. Neither hotel had an in-room
coffee maker. I've checked out several other hotel
websites, and so far none of the list in-room coffee
makers as an amenity. What gives?

Response: There are none I can think of off the top of my head,
Margaret but it may have less to do with "get out of
the room" than with the law. The last I heard (and
this may have changed but it was true as recently as a
couple of years ago) the fire codes in Las Vegas
prevented any hotel with more than a couple of hundred
rooms from having coffee makers in the rooms. That's
why you often saw them at the smaller off-Strip places
but not at the big places.

Mike's Gravatar Love your blogs, this was hilarious:

"Brad used shower gel for shampoo – and that wasn’t too bad a mistake. But hand cream instead of conditioner? It took me all day to figure out why his hair was so greasy".

Wanda Robinson's Gravatar Since you had a weekend at the Palazzo, can you tell me if they remembered to put drawers in the room. I stayed at the Venetian last year in one of the remodeled rooms and it had NO drawers. Had to keep my underwear, etc. on the shelf in the closet. I LOVED the old rooms. They were so elegant. These are kind of clownish. I know. I know. I was a decorator and appreciate certain aspects of the furnishings, but still prefer the more classic designs. I wonder if the Bellagio has kept their loook. Also the Wynn.
