Perhaps I’m Old-fashioned

Yesterday I was at the Hard Rock and I felt sorry for my daughter, the Frugal Princess, and anyone else who is trying to raise a girl to be a lady with class and high standards.

Such a lack of class at the Hard Rock’s Sunday pool debauchery called Rehab. I can take the bikinis at a pool or on stage at a beauty contest. But since when is it appropriate to strut around a public place (like in a casino or a restaurant) in a swimsuit without a cover-up. And just what is the new fashion statement girls make when they unzip their shorts or jeans a couple of inches and then fold back the two sides to make an “opening”? I get tired of hearing that a female rape victim is NEVER to blame. There is more than one way to say “Yes” than with words out of your mouth.

We have noticed many Sunday afternoons that there are always a couple of ambulances standing by when we visit the Hard Rock. But when we were leaving later than usual yesterday, just after 6 p.m. when the pool party was winding down, there were FIVE ambulances in the parking lot.   Would you want your son or daughter to attend a party where it would take that many rescue vehicles to scrape impaired and unconscious people off the beach?

I used to be able to tell in Vegas when I saw a cheap prostitute by the way she dressed. Now the casinos are swarming with girls dressed like that.

I guess I am just too old-fashioned!

Judy's Gravatar The Hard Rock experience is not something you should think is the norm, it is an experience to be tried by most young adults at least once - sort of like the mile high club. I have no doubt that the Hard Rock makes a huge amount of money off these young inebriated people but they are all of the age of consent so there is no fowl. Just a lot of drunk young people partying hardy. The hotter and sexier you dress the more attention you will get & that is unfortunately just what they are looking for. So for all of those people that would be offended they now know and should just steer clear of the Hard Rock during the hours of the Rehab Party.

Mary Ann's Gravatar "sort of like the mile high club" Huh? When did that become an experience that is normal?

I guess at 48 I'm probably old fashioned, too, because I agree with Jean. Much of the "fashion" today is just plain slutty.

Caroll B's Gravatar I don't think it has anything to do with being old fashioned. I think it has to do with having morals. Parents aren't parents these days, they are "friends." They're more worried about being a friend than teaching the difference between right and wrong. Kids aren't leaving home with core values and they're unfortunately ill-equipped to handle the temptations of the world. If a girl has to unbutton her pants or take off her clothes to feel valued, then her parents failed and need to take responsibility for not instilling basic principles into their child. There are more important things in life than being sexy or hooking up and it's too bad that so many of our youth haven't been taught that vital lesson.

Philip K.'s Gravatar I joke around all the time with my buddies at vegas. I can't tell the working girls from the regular girls anymore either.
# Posted By Philip K. | 7/6/09 7:57 PM
Caroll B's Gravatar One more thing... I guess that's why our youth are contracting VD at the rate of 57,000 per day.

Kerry's Gravatar Jean, I think you're right on. If you put the product on the counter, the product must be for sale. And at such a terrible cost! The new morality is nothing more than the old immorality.
# Posted By Kerry | 7/6/09 9:46 PM
EDC's Gravatar Nothing like a little debauchery to stir the hornets nest. Yes, many do appear "slutty." I think ethics about dressing went out the door with chivalry and manners.

Richard's Gravatar I couldn't agree with you more Jean - - except to say it has spread to the malls too.
# Posted By Richard | 7/7/09 7:38 AM
OTC's Gravatar I had the great misfortune of attending the Rehab party once as part of my nephew's bachelor party, I joked that after that we didn't need to spend money on strippers since we got to see it all for free there, but it was an experience to be sure and not once that I plan to repeat.

Have you seen the reality show they film about that party, seems like ambulances and fist fights are a regular occurence.

If nothing else, I haven't set foot in the Hard Rock since that time and have no plans to ever again.

In other words, just ignore bad behavior and it will go away. Well, history is full of examples of just how well that approach works.

Ron Treloar's Gravatar What a great article!! I guess I am old fashioned too. Your observations couldn't have been more true.

Tracy Cannon's Gravatar You are definitely NOT too old-fashioned. I'm 41 and think it's disgraceful how both these "men" and "women" behave at the Hard Rock. Out of curiosity, I watched Rehab on MTV and the whole show was about drunken, belligerent, spoiled wanna-be adults. Can they really make that much money from Rehab? That kind of atmosphere keeps me away from gambling and eating at the Hard Rock on my visits. Just think of all the customers that feel the same way! What a loss of revenue.
# Posted By Tracy Cannon | 7/7/09 3:09 PM
Carol's Gravatar You are so right, Jean. I think many young women today, especially those visiting Vegas, aspire to BE prostitutes or strippers. Their public behavior, drunk or sober, has proven to be much worse than either. Most prostitutes try to maintain a low profile (since it's illegal in Clark County), whereas the young tourist women do nothing but flaunt.

Dean's Gravatar I love it when women dress slutty like that. Rehab is a great place to pick up a couple of whores and have a great party in your room after the pool closes. Why pay to go to the Chicken Ranch when you can just get a room at the Hard Rock? Do it this way and all the T&A you want is free!!! Thats being frugal!!!!

Chris's Gravatar I think Dean's comment says it all! Girls, wake up!

captjack47's Gravatar Jean: Don't back down one inch. I'm old (84) and very old fashioned and it really hurts to see our family values go down the drain. One of the strengths of our great country has has always been exemplary leadership. We're gonna be in for a huge wake-up call somewhere down the line. captjack47

barack's Gravatar Who has been living under a rock? This is the new class so get used to it. This will only get worse since over 50% of children under 5 are minorities and 30% of them have English as a second language and less than half will get a high school diploma. They all need something to do. Do you want them in the streets? The zipper thing means " I shave" and " I am open for business". They even think they are cooler because they voted for B. Hussein Obama.
# Posted By barack | 7/7/09 8:45 PM
Ned's Gravatar It has nothing to do with race. Most of the girl's I see dressed like sluts in Atlantic City and Vegas are white and and speak English as a native language. My wife says they have no self-esteem and dress like that for attention.
One time I saw a girl dressed skimpier than the working girl's on Pacific Avenue and asked her "How much?" She was real embarassed. Her boyfriend would've slugged me if I wasn't bigger than him.

larry's Gravatar sorry to say, jean, but we are getting older. i agree with you, but it's time for us to move over for the 'next generation'. we are only the 'queen of comps' or 'king of the basketball court' in our own minds or to our own generation.
the younger generation have no clue who we are and what we have gone through, and don't care that we have something to teach them. they will have to learn for themselvs. remember how our parents reacted to the drugs
and 'free love' of the 60's and 70's? to them we had no morals either. some of us learned, some didn't make it, but there was nothing anyone could do to change it. i know it's hard to accept. they have to learn for themselvs,
and we can only hope and pray for their safety, and guide them when we can. take care

Robin's Gravatar As a mature "child of the 60's"...I fully agree with you.
Dignity and self-respect don't enter into the attitude of that party!
I am glad that even growing up when I did, I thought more about my actions than these kids do!

Ashley's Gravatar You don't have to be a woman to be a whore. I am as disgusted by the men as I am by the women. Palms, Hard Rock, etc. definitely not places to hang out if you have any self esteem. But I guess you can't ever get rid of oglers and those that want to be ogled.

I am no prude, but do NOT dress that way at 37 and didn't even at 18. Even though I'm rockin' a gym toned body now. = )

Mike's Gravatar I saw an email from Tony Curtis about your 07.06/2009 blog-The Publisher of this website -he's doing your damage control.

What the hell were you thinking-The Hard Rock should sue you!

Judy's Gravatar I understand all of you that are upset and offended by the way these young ladies dress. What I was trying to get across in my earlier comment is they are all of age, the Hard Rock is doing nothing illegal. Yes they are condoning the actions of these young adults, but once again it is their choice to act and dress as they do. I for one would not attend one of these parties and will definitely steer clear of the Hard Rock during the rehab party hours. I already stay away from the night clubs because of the way the attendees act and dress. I don't like watching anyone doing the dogie dance rubbing up against each other. I have not forgotten that it is Las Vegas; and your city Jean is the one that came up with the logo "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" - to me that is just promoting bad behavior of young people who interpret that to act and dress as they do while in Vegas. I use to love dressing to go to dinner in a nice restaurant and to see a show, but today very few people still carry on that tradition.

margaret smith's Gravatar You are absolutely correct when you state that girls are 1/2 dressed anymore, or at least a lot of them are this way, they seem to invite the guys....yes i am old fashioned about this but they seem to flaunt their dress, and there is less and less material in most hings they wear anymore....

Ted Brabham's Gravatar Good for you Jean~! As the father of two daughters, I agree with every word you shared.
Keep up the great work. I wish more people were "old-fashioned" like us!
