Personal Time Off

Wow – time flies when you are having fun.  I just realized I hadn’t written in this blog for 10 days.

I do have some excuses. Brad decided to continue his extensive survey of local medical facilities and took an ambulance ride to Desert Springs Hospital after a cystoscopy to diagnose his frequent urinary infections stirred up the bacterial boogiemen throughout his whole body. He was put on IV antibiotics, and since he was also having chest pain, they put him through a thorough cardio workup.   Those tests came out okay and the antibiotics did their job so he got out of the hospital in a couple of days. Not a minute too soon for him, however, since he said they tried to kill him by freezing him to death – and I have my orders if he ever has to go back into a hospital to pack him a warm sweat suit and thick socks!

His problems with what he calls his “old plumbing” continued and a kidney stone was found. This week he had a lithotripsy that zapped the stone so we are hoping this will solve some of these problems. But at our ages, it seems that medical appointments take up a good bit of our time.

Something else has also taken up some of my time – de-junking our closets and garage – a project that was long overdue for this squirrel!   In my closet I counted 32 purses and 55 pairs of shoes and every piece of clothing I have bought for the last 15 years. A lot of these are the fault of casinos – comp points and holiday shopping - but mostly it is my own what Brad calls a crazy frugal tendency to never throw anything away.   Anyway Safe Nest, a good local charity for abused women and children, is getting many bags of donations.

I also have started back to volunteering in my nearby elementary school several days a week, dropping down from 2nd grade where I was last year to kindergarten. I am enjoying this age group so much – they are so young and innocent – and so excited to work on the computers.

And of course there is one other little activity that takes up some of my time – video poker. But hopefully I will find more time to blog. Stay tuned.

Update on Endoscopy Clinic Scandal

Although we have been urged by some to see a lawyer if we had procedures at the medical clinics under fire for unsafe medical practices, even if our blood tests came out negative, I have decided not to do so. I am not a litigious type and have never sued anyone or been sued – knock on wood. I was not in a state of anxiety while waiting for my test results, as so many said they were – I guess I’m too busy to be anxious! Besides, I think the money available for these lawsuits will be limited, and it should go to the unlucky people who were actually infected.

It is coincidental but three weeks ago Brad had his every-5-year colonoscopy. (He has had polyps in the past plus a family history of colon cancer so this is routine.) His appointment had been scheduled before the Endoscopy Clinic scandal broke and was done in an outpatient clinic that was not owned by any of the doctors embroiled in the scandal and one that had passed its inspection.

But all medical clinics are on their best behavior these days – in fact now might be the best time to get an out-patient (or hospital for that matter) procedure. Brad says the doctor who did his colonoscopy made a point of showing him the new vial as he removed it from the package and explaining in detail the sterile condition of the needles and syringes.

Time Out

I’m going to have to limit my computer time for a bit. I’m between the two eye surgeries and both my eyes seem mixed up as to what their “duties” are, making me dizzy and giving me a headache from hell as well as refusing to help me read!    However, once I get the left eye done on the 19th (cataract gone and astigmatism fixed), I should be seeing great and able to take up blogging again.

And by that time I should have a good report back from my blood work, done today. Thanks so much to all who have expressed their concern about my getting caught up in this current medical mess-up in Vegas.
