The Consumer Electronics Show took place last month (Jan 7-10). I have attended this conference in the past and was wondering how large the attendance was this year? For many years, the last full week before Thanksgiving was always COMDEX week. I attended several of those from the late 90s through its final year in 2003. In its heyday it had quite an effect on room rates and shows. At its peak I think the attendance exceeded 200,000. I was curious, was that the largest convention Las Vegas (or maybe anywhere else) has ever had?

There has been a lot written about room rates in Las Vegas. However, little attention has been paid to car-rental prices, which seem way up to me in Las Vegas and most everywhere else. Adjusting auto-rental fleets is a lot easier than adjusting room numbers. I don't have solid stats, but I'd almost take an even bet that much of the savings due to the hotel glut for John Q. Tourist has been eaten up by auto-rental prices and fees. What say the experts?

While "surfing" around for designs for a firepit for my backyard, I came across this picture. It looks like an awesome building! The caption states that the picture was taken from the roof of the Southwest Gas Building, and you can easily pick out Bellagio, Venetian, and presumably Mirage in the background. Poking around on Google Earth, I can't seem to find a building that would fit this location. Is this a real picture, or has it been "enhanced," and where can I find the actual location?

We hear that whales can sometimes make or break a week, month, or even a quarter when it comes to a casino's gambling revenue.
