Resort Fee At El Cortez - Wm. Burns (01/28/2014) - 4.5 out of 5 stars
Effective Feb.1st,'14, the downtown El Cortez has joined the ever-growing "Rip Off The Customer" Hotel List by charging a mandatory $8.95 plus tax daily Resort Fee. I will not stay at any Vegas Hotel who uses this odius tactic to extort extra money from their customers and I hope you will do the same.

friendly, cheap, pleasant - jefflcox (01/21/2014) - 4.5 out of 5 stars
On weekdays, El Cortez offers excellent $3 blackjack and seems happy to do so. We played with a dealer on her first day, and although she was slow and somewhat likely to make mistakes, everyone -- players and pit bosses -- was patiently encouraging. Security "stole" a player's purse to make a point about protecting valuables, and made the lesson fun. The video poker is better than most. The diner has a good $5 burger and beer special.

My spouse and I have been El Cortez players for 30 years and have enjoyed every visit. The employees always greets us with a smile and always inquire about our family. We enjoy that they remember us and make each visit special for us. I recommend the El Cortez to all my friends and family. The hotel is close to The Fremont Experience and the slots are really loose. The rates are very good. Try it sometimes you might enjoy it as much as we do see you soon.

I had trouble explaining to the Player's Club representatives that both the Las Vegas Advisor and the American Casino Guide published coupons people might want to use every year. However, to the manager's credit, after completely annoying me with his obtuseness, he did make everything right. The multi-strike Jacks or Better machines near the Player's Club are fun, maybe worth a trip. The roulette is the cheapest I know of in downtown Las Vegas.

nice place - mikeyg (12/21/2012) - 4 out of 5 stars
little bar by the sports lounge next to the bathrooms was the nicest place i have been to in a while. the bartender, scott was very nice. would go back again and again. ps the video poker machines were lucky.

Team Cortez! - grover1974 (11/24/2012) - 4.5 out of 5 stars
Love this place! We have a group that goes every year for the NCAA men's basketball tournament opening weekend. You can't beat the low table minimums, 3:2 payouts on blackjack, and generous comps. The Flame and Cafe Cortez have great food at resonable prices. The rooms are clean and cheap. The location is perfect. You're in the heart of the action and bars of Freemont Street. I used to stay exclusively on the strip. Now, I don't even feel the need to go to the strip when I'm there. See ya' in March for Las Vegas Madness!
