A group of friends and I stayer here in March. We wiated in line 2 hours to check in. The rooms were horrible. They were dirty and run down. We were stayed in Tunis tower, which is one of the older towers. The maids never cleaned the room once during our 3 day stay, they didn't even knock on the door. The casino was poor. 90% of the blackjack paid 6 to 5. The multi deck tables that paid 3/2 were alway $15 or $25 minimums. It was cheap to stay, but next time I'll stay accross the street at the Stratosphere for the same price.
Not worth the free room - brianlv (04/08/2009) - 1 out of 5 stars
My friends and I had comped rooms for two nights in April. We checked in (two different rooms) and directly checked out.
There were numerous stains on the carpeting, the mattress hadn't been changed in years, as you could see, with the bed made, the indents of where people slept. The headboard had not been wiped down in quite sometime and had prints and film all over it and there was still garbage in the wastebasket. This is the second time I have made an attempt to stay at the Sahara. Until I see they have remodeled every room, even free isn't worth the bio-hazards in those rooms.
September 08 Stay - Not bad at all - NewCarolina (12/01/2008) - 4 out of 5 stars
After hearing many anecdotal bad reviews, I was a little hesitant to stay at the Sahara. It turned out to be fine.
Rooms - Stayed in a "deluxe" upgrade room. Nice size, clean. Smelled awful, but, it was a smoking room, I guess that is to be expected. On the seventh floor and elevators were great, no long waits.
Casino - $5 single deck - 6:5 on natural wasn't impressive, but, playing $5 single deck is a rare find. Dealers were nice and friendly. I had a novice with me, dealers were patient. Actually got comped via players card. About $90 for 4 sessions, ~4 hours each session, single deck, nickel to $15 a hand.(is that a good rate or not, I don't know, I am such a low roller I never expect comps) No shuffling machines at single deck games, though, do single deck table use these anywhere? 4 (sometimes), 5 or 6 players at a table would get a shuffle every hand. Drinks were hot and cold, sometimes great drink service, sometimes not so much.
Food - Buffet is like it has always been. I don't remember the food choices, but, it hasn't changed in 5 years. I had a number of meals in the coffee shop, quite good actually. Steak dinner was really good, and a bargain, too. Staff was super nice. (coffee in the snack shop near the checkin desk wasn't very tasty. Starbucks price, but, not Starbucks quality.)
Pool - water very cold, drinks not very tasty, cheap though. I guess if you say "I've got $10, give me the most booze you can" then you shouldn't expect a great drink. :-D
Overall - Sahara is old school which is all but gone from the strip. Enjoy it while it is still there. I heard it has been purchased by corporate America, one of the last on the strip. I wonder how long the old schoolness of the place will stay around.
sahara hotel - drasticdave (10/08/2008) - 4 out of 5 stars
This hotel is OK if you are on a budget. I stayed here because it is on the monorail line, which makes it easy to vist the other casinos on the strip. I did pay the $10/day upgrade on my room. It was quite worn, with stained carpet. I hate to think what the standard rooms look like! Also, stay away from the buffet here. It is dirty, and will probably make you sick. They do offer $1 margaritas which are a good value.
We had a wonderful time!! - deasterbunny (09/24/2008) - 5 out of 5 stars
My husband and I came to Vegas on a Tahiti Village promotion for our Anniversary. There was a mix-up with the hotels and we stayed at the Sahara instead. We had a wonderful time!! Everyone as so helpful and courteous! This hotel is a part of Vegas history and we are honored to be able to say that we stayed at "The Sahara".
Good choice-clean rooms - PeggyG (09/24/2008) - 5 out of 5 stars
My husband and I prefer this hotel above all the others when we want to stay on the strip. We pay the extra to get a room on the strip side so we can just gaze out and watch all the glitz. Once inside your room, its clean, cozy and quiet. The hotel staff are gracious.

Paid the extra $10 per night for the deluxe room. I'd hate to see the standard rooms. The rooms are run down. Room service trays stay outside of rooms for days. Caravan Coffee shop is SLOW. May be a cheap rate but not worth it. Spend a little more and stay somewhere else.
