February 10, 2011 09:46
Las Vegas' sports books took in $87.5 million in bets on the Super Bowl and had a win of $724,000, representing a minuscule .83%. The combination of the favorite Packers winning and the score going over the total of 45 was a worst-case scenario for the books, since the public traditionally bets favorites and over. However, other wagering options for the game, including proposition bets and parlay cards, won enough to overcome the losses. The house doesn't always win, but it usually does-this was the 15th time in 16 years of tracking that the casinos have won on the Super Bowl. The lone loss of just under $2.6 million came in 2008 when the Giants beat the Patriots.
