Cantor Fires Colbert:
October 29, 2012 17:20
It comes as no surprise to hear that Mike Colbert, the Las Vegas race and sports book manager at the center of an online sports-betting scandal that erupted last week, has been terminated by Cantor Gaming. New BA Flights:
October 29, 2012 14:28
British Airways commences nonstop service to Las Vegas from London’s Gatwick International Airport Monday, reports the LV Sun. The schedule, which will operate three times per week and competes with Virgin Atlantic's long-established daily nonstop service, makes it the first overseas competitive route to the city by two major international air carriers, which with luck will have consumer benefits fare-wise.
The U.K. is the #1 source of overseas passengers through McCarran, and the new Virgin service out of Gatwick is estimated to be worth some $41.5 million in nongaming revenue annually.
Note: For the unitiated, be aware that Gatwick and Heathrow are in different leagues when it comes to comfort and convenience, although both are linked to central London with efficient train shuttle services. But think of Gatwick in terms of being the equivalent of a fast-food joint, while Heathrow, particularly the swanky new B.A. Terminal 5, is fine dining by comparison.
Airport Traffic Down:
October 29, 2012 14:24
The decline in traffic at McCarran International Airport continued in September, with a 3 percent drop to 3.4 million passengers compared to the same month last year. The exception to the rule was discount carrier Spirit Airlines, which posted a 46 percent increase.

October 28, 2012 17:16
There have seemingly been a lot of changes to the culinary lineup at Wynn since it opened, starting with the early closure of Corsa Cusina, the demise of both Alex (closed) and Stratta (renamed), and the rebranding of Okada amidst the legal wranglings between its namesake and his former friend Steve Wynn, among others. Now Norm! Has announced in the R-J that the novelty Switch, which recently closed, will be reopened and renamed Andrea's in honor of Wynn's wife. Strip Club Horror:
October 27, 2012 16:58
We just discovered that not only is the Palomino the only nude strip club in Las Vegas with a liquor license; it is currently also the only one with a haunted-house attraction! While other gentlemen's clubs are cashing in on the popular holiday with predictable themed nights, Palomino boss Adam Gentile, a lifelong horror fan, has taken it to whole other level -- the second floor of the club, actually -- and constructed a full-on haunted attraction, even to the extent of hiring actors, reports the LV Sun. While there's no nudity in his spooky maze, some of the club's dancers are apparently entering into the spirit by dressing up and deliberately scaring customers (with machetes, among other things, apparently). You have been warned...

Possible Hope for F'bleau Contractors:
October 25, 2012 16:36
Numerous contractors, collectively owed some $350 million in unpaid bills on the frozen Fontainebleau project, today received some ray of hope from the Nevada Supreme Court, which ruled in their favor on a couple of key legal points, including a unanimous ruling that mechanic's liens take precedence over the claims of lenders who came into the project subsequently, and who are owed some $1.85 billion. The Fontainbleau bankruptcy estate holds approximately $100 million that can be paid to creditors, so if the lenders hd won today's ruling, the contractors would've received nothing.

Room Deals at Luxor, Excalibur:
October 22, 2012 12:16
This item is specifically for those LVA Gold members who received our weekly email newsletter last week, which profiled room deals at Luxor and Excalibur. Over the weekend, we received feedback from several people who'd attempted to book the deals, only to find broken links, expired codes, and other problems. While we are not responsible for the deals or their presentation, and merely promote good offers when we find them, we'd like to apologize to all who were inconvenienced or disappointed. We can confirm that the Luxor deal is still valid and whatever technical problems the property was experiencing now appear to have been fixed. The Excalibur offer apparently was pulled prematurely, without notice or explanation, although we're trying to find out more information from the property and will pass it on if we learn anything useful.

Now, for the second time in as many months, there's a bull problem on the north side. It was on Aug. 18 when a woman was hospitalized after being hit by a runaway bull from Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins' estate; now, as many as 30 bulls have been reported as loose in the vicinity of Jones Boulevard and Washburn Road in northwest Las Vegas, although at the time of this writing the livestock were apparently nowhere to be seen. It's a shame they didn't wait another week, when all the bull riders will be in town for PBR.
