Question of the Day — 8 Oct 2004

On all of the poker telecasts there are players who refer to themselves as professional poker players. In general, what kind of stakes are these players usually involved in, and (not to pry) what do some of the top-tier professionals net in a year?

This is quite subjective. You've got super-wealthy pros who play games like $200-$400 and higher hold 'em, and you've got the "working class" pros who play $10-$20 to $40-$80. Most poker pros fall under the working-class category and probably make $30,000 to $60,000 a year. The handful of top pros have money to burn and may not even make money at it, although they'll be the first ones to tell you they do.
