Since Bellagio opened in 1998, the fountain show has been one of Las Vegas’ most popular attractions. And not only is it free, it can even make getting stuck in Strip traffic an actual pleasure! Of course you can also view the show more comfortably from the sidewalk or while enjoying a cocktail on the patio of Bellagio’s Fontana Bar, or from the al fresco patio at Paris' Mon Ami Gabi, the bar at the Eiffel Tower restaurant, or the observation deck of the same.
Here are some technical facts and figures:
Total number of water-emitting devices: - 1,198, made up of "oarsmen," "minishooters," and "hyperershooters." Oarsmen – can rotate 360 degrees and spray water up to 70 feet. Minishooters – send water up to 100 feet high. Hypershooters – these babies can blast jets of water up to 240 feet in the air from their 70-gallon water tanks.
The lake itself is the size of eight football fields and needed 21 days to fill. (Apparently that would have been a year and a half if they’d used a regular garden hose, but we don’t think that was taking into account the evaporation rate here in the desert. It would probably still be about as lake-like as Death Valley if they’d opted for that method.)
At night, 4,792 underwater lights illuminate the fountains (which looks especially cool from a helicopter, if you're feeling extravagant).
The showtimes are listed below and are currently choreographed in rotation of popular and classical favorites ranging from Broadway hits like Frank Sinatra’s "Luck Be A Lady" to "Rondine al Nido," performed by Luciano Pavarotti. During holidays and special days, the repertoire is expanded to include a range of seasonal selections and anthems, including "Santa Baby" (Madonna), "O Holy Night" (Placido Domingo), "Sleigh Ride" (Johnny Mathis) and Whitney Houston’s rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner." For a list of all 30 songs to which the fountains have been choreographed, visit Bellagio’s home page at www.bellagio.com and click on "Bellagio fountains" under the "Attractions" link, then click on "Fountain Music List." The duration of each show is dictated by the length of the song -- generally between three and five minutes.
