Poll Preview: What are your favorite casino names?
This poll idea was suggested by Martin V., a frequent contributor to LVA.com. He writes, "From today’s QoD [on Boyd's resurrection of the Stardust brand], there seems to be a lot of interest in casino names. Maybe this could be a future poll of some kind: What is your favorite casino name, past or present? Or what is the worst casino name of all time? (THEhotel springs to mind)."
Pending poll-preview opinions, we're opting for favorite over least favorite casino names. Naturally, the least favorite (or worst) will wind up at the bottom of the results. Also, to help us cover the many many casino names in Las Vegas history, we're ordering them chronologically, which is a lot of information in its own right.
Our list is comprehensive, but we're sure it isn't exhaustive (and our order might be slightly off). We've ignored small short-lived casinos (such as the Barrel House Club, 1934-1938, and the Golden Slot, 1954-1958), and we didn't include Henderson or North Las Vegas casinos; there are already 136 names. But please let us know in the comments which important Vegas casinos we've inevitably, though inadvertently, overlooked or misplaced.
And by the way, again, as with many of our history answers, we found the website VintageLasVegas.com to be invaluable for this list. If you're at all into Las Vegas history and haven't found your way to this site, we highly recommend you do.

We visited the Mob Museum on our last visit. We saw that the museum is housed in the courthouse where the Kefauver hearings were held. I didn't think I was interested in that, so I didn't read about it while we were there. But later I began wondering about them. Who was Kefauver, what were the hearings about, and why were they a big deal?
