New Reader Poll Preview: Do you tip your hotel housekeepers?

This will be our next poll, which will run a week from today (February 28). It's a straightforward survey about whether or not you leave a tip for your hotel housekeepers and if so, how much. There are also a few ancillary questions that reveal tipping philosophies.

If you'd like to suggest other choices, we'll appreciate hearing them and incorporate them into next week's poll.

And we'd prefer if you hold your general comments about housekeeper tipping for the poll page; we'd like to keep comments on this page for hints about the poll itself.

Here are the choices:

I never tip the housekeeper (and if not, please tell us why not).

I always leave a tip for the housekeeper.

I tip $1-$2 per night.

I tip $3-$5 per night.

I tip more than $5 per night.

I leave a tip based on the service I receive.

I find that the more I tip, the better service I receive.

I don't tip for one night, only more than one.

I leave a tip every day, so that the housekeeper who actually cleans the room receives the money.

I leave a tip at the end of my stay; I believe that the tips even out in the end.
