Question of the Day — 5 Dec 2017
I would like to ask you about the movement of the Raiders to Las Vegas. Do you think Sunday hotel rates will increase dramatically when Raiders play local on Sunday afternoons?
Probably. If we had to bet on it, we'd take the yes.
It's a simple matter of supply and demand. The stadium will have 65,000 seats. Of course, a sizable percentage of attendance will probably be locals, especially if the Raiders are as successful and exciting as the new Vegas Golden Knights pro hockey team. (And if you haven't taken a look at
Joe Pane's blog about the VGK, you might want to; the VGK are breaking records all over the place.)
Still, even if half the stadium is filled by Las Vegans, 32,500 out-of-towners is a fairly big crowd to accommodate throughout fall and early-winter weekends. That number would place in the top 15 of Las Vegas' largest conventions. Rates for rooms on the south Strip will rise with the obvious demand, which will trigger higher rates in the tourist corridor and at nearby locals casinos.
It will be the same as avoiding big conventions; you'll have to check if there's a Raiders' home game scheduled to dodge the inflated rates.
