This restaurant was reviewed in the November 2009LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. You won’t find dollar dogs here, but for $3.49 to $5.49 you can get kraut dogs, coney dogs, spicy dogs, Polish sausage, and, of course, classic Chicago dogs (with mustard, relish, diced onions, tomato slices, peppers, dill pickle, and celery salt on a poppy-seed bun). There’s also Italian beef, cheesesteaks, meatball subs, Reubens, gyros, and chicken sandwiches, along with poppers, pizza puffs, and Coney fries. Chase it with a “black cow” (root-beer float). While other similar hot-dog stands have come and gone, Chicago Hot Dogs has been operating out of its little red building (on Rancho on the way to Texas Station and Fiesta) since 1982. Drive through or eat inside and check out some cool old-time photos of the Second City on the wall. Hours are 10 am to 7 pm Mon.-Sat., closed on Sundays.
