LVA Review

This restaurant was reviewed in the April 2012 LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. This isn’t a hidden Las Vegas gem that’s been around for 25 years and no one knows about. Rather, it’s the opposite. Dom Demarco’s has been open less than a year and millions of people around the country are already aware. Why? Because this is the place that delivered pizza to president Obama when he came to Vegas in January. You know we had to try it, and all we can say is, if the president can run the nation as well as he picks his pizza, we’re all in very good hands. Demarco’s uses the recipes from the famous Di Fara Pizza out of Brooklyn and the pies are amazing. They make two kinds, the traditional New York thin crust ($12 for a small cheese and $18 for a large) and a square thick crust ($15 and $24). There’s a full menu of appetizers, salads, and pastas, but just about everyone seems to eat pizza. If you want the one Obama ate, ask for the Di Fara special ($26), which is a thick crust topped only with cheese, pepperoni, and fresh basil. And talk about fresh, we’d rate the mushrooms, spinach, and artichokes on a NY-style we tried as the best veggie toppings we’ve ever had on a Las Vegas pizza. About the only thing wrong here is they don’t sell ’em by the slice. The restaurant is in a strange location, part of a little outdoor mall called Queensridge, about nine miles west of the Strip. Lots of families come for dinner, and the bar and lounge areas are always full of young professionals there to watch a game (or the good-looking bartenders) and drink good draft beer, like Peroni or Stella, for $5.50. There’s a big board of featured wines and cocktails, and a 3-6 pm happy hour Mon.-Thurs., with discounted drinks, including $1 PBR.
