This restaurant was reviewed in the November 2010 LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. With all the glowing things we have to say about the Golden Gate in this issue, it shouldn’t be too bothered by the tepidness of our first review of Du-pars, the vaunted diner operator that took over the Gate’s formerly vaunted coffee shop. We tried the prime rib, which used to be killer here, and can give it only a shrug. It was decent, but not $14.95 decent, and we were surprised by an extra $2.25 charge for a salad. We were subsequently told that prime rib isn’t Du-pars’ thing (it was added to the menu at the Golden Gate’s request), so we’ll be back to try what it’s famous for–sandwiches and breakfasts, including what some say are the “world’s greatest pancakes.”
