LVA Review

This restaurant was reviewed in the March 2004 LVA, when this show was performing at Luxor; some of the information contained in this review may no longer be accurate. The Hofbrauhaus German biergarten has opened on Paradise Rd., kitty-corner from the Hard Rock. The place is somewhat tourist-trappy, serving big German beers and big German food at big American prices (four of us ran up a lunch tab of $90), but it's also kind of fun and the food is good. The Bavarian eats include wiener schnitzel, schweinebraten, and wurst-platte (translated as breaded veal, pork roast, and a bunch of sausages, respectively). The food servings are big enough that you don't have to worry about sides, but save space for the killer apple strudel ($6.50). Most platters are priced in the mid-to-high teens. At night the dinners are a couple bucks more, but they're bigger yet and an ooompa band plays while you eat. A selection of German-import beers runs from $3.50 for 10 ouncers to $9.99 for a liter. The Hofbrauhaus is open 11 am to 11 pm on weekdays and until 2 am on weekends, and 20%-off food coupons have been running in the Friday Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Las Vegas Sun. Parking's a bit tough; you can always stash your car in the Hard Rock lot and walk across the street.
