LVA Review

This restaurant was re-reviewed in the January 2013 LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. Here’s another local play that combines good food with a fun dining experience. Honey Pig is a Korean barbecue unlike others you’re probably used to, in that the food is cooked over heated domes at your table rather than on a flat surface. At first it’s hard to understand how it works, but you’ll soon realize that the upper regions are hotter and you can move your food around to cook accordingly. Order up and the traditional Korean side dishes are served right away while your main course is brought out raw. Watch the servers go to work cutting the meats with giant scissors and laying out bean sprouts and kim chee to heat with it on the grill. It’s a community set-up, where everyone maneuvers their own food around the dome and picks off what they want when they want it. Most go initially for the all-you-can-eat BBQ that’s $15 for lunch and $20 for dinner. They bring rib eye, brisket, pork belly, pork neck, short ribs, chicken, squid and whatever else is being offered as long as you want to keep eating. It’s a good way to try all the different things, but the best of it is the rib eye, which you can order on its own for $29.99 (a single order will easily feed two). There are plenty of other choices on the menu, including a good grilled mackerel ($14.95), soups, and noodles. If you’re still hungry at the end of the meal order the kim chee fried rice ($2.95) and the servers will cook it for you using whatever’s left over on the grill. The no-frills restaurant is located near the back of a strip mall on the south side of Spring Mtn. Rd. about three miles west of the Strip. It’s a great choice if you have a big group, and it’s open 24 hours, making it a tremendous late-night-munchies play.
