This restaurant was reviewed in the May 2007 LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. We really like this new Mexican restaurant at Silverton. Las Vegas is no hotbed for authentic Mexican food and in the casinos, especially, you tend to get the same old Americanized preparation. But this one is a bit different. We tried lime beef enchiladas ($11) and shrimp fajitas ($16); the latter is served with eight big shrimp positioned on their tails so they’re jutting out from the plate. Both were a cut above most casino-based Mexican fare. There’s a selection of tapas (mostly $4), from which we sampled calamari and beef skewers—both good. Another winner was the ceviche, a surprisingly generous serving of fish, shrimp, and a little lobster for just $8. If you haven’t already noticed, this place is also really cheap. In fact, nothing on the menu is as high as $20. Unless, that is, you count a shot of some of the more expensive tequilas—Mi Casa Cantina has an extensive tequila list, including some premium brands that exceed $20 a shot. Use the coupon in the Pocketbook of Values to get one tapas selection (or dessert) when you order an entrée.
