LVA Review

This restaurant was reviewed in the April 2002 and August 2005 LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. The Orleans has debuted the Prime Rib Loft, the third restaurant (after Italian and rib places) to occupy the upstairs space on the north side of the casino. Whoa, a prime rib specialty room with Coast-style pricing. Great idea. But our first experience revealed severe problems in execution. Specifically, a loooong wait for food that came waaaay overcooked (probably due to a loooong wait under a heat lamp). Once they get the kinks worked out, the Loft should be a good one. There are just two cuts: the bargain “Orleans” for $7.95 and the big “beefeater” for $16.95 (also the pre-sliced English-style). Meals come with salad prepared tableside or a specialty pea soup (which we preferred), oversized baked potato, and bread. Chicken, pasta, and fish dishes are priced in the low teens. Despite the low pricing, three of us were able to pile on enough appetizers (nothing particularly recommendable), desserts, and drinks to hit the $120 mark before tip. Aside from the shortcomings discussed above, the dinner was good. But at this point, we recommend the Cortez Room at sister-casino Gold Coast for a superior prime rib experience. The last time we reviewed the Prime Rib Loft at the Orleans (LVA 4/02), we got an angry phone call from food and beverage. At the time the restaurant was new and there were glitches. We wrote: “Once they get the kinks worked out, the Loft should be a good one.” And it is. Prices have gone up significantly, but what doesn’t go up in price around here? The “Orleans” and “double-cut” portions that were $7.95 and $16.95 are now $13.95 and $20.95, respectively (the big one is a monster; the regular cut will be plenty for most). These are good prime rib dinners that come with soup or salad, choice of potato, and bread. The best part, though, is the horseradish. This stuff isn’t atomic, it’s nuclear—without question one of the hottest we’ve ever come across.
