This restaurant was reviewed in the July 2010 LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. Last year this Denver-based hamburger franchise announced that it would open as many as 20 locations in Las Vegas. We don’t know if that many are still in the plan, but so far, two have opened. Smashburgers are made from Angus beef and the name refers to the way the burgers are smashed down into the grill while cooking. It’s a good gimmick, as is the claim that the burger buns and condiments are a fresher and healthier grade, but the proof is in the taste. The burgers are good, except for one—which is ridiculously good. The Sin City Smashburger is a patty topped with a fried egg, bacon, American cheese, grilled onions, and a stack of skinny twisty onion rings. It’s really something else. Interesting sides, like fried pickles or flash-fried asparagus, green beans, and carrots, are also available, but it’s all about that Sin City beast at this place. The base burgers are $4.99 for the third-of-a-pounder and $5.99 for half-pound. Specialty burgers are $5.99/$6.99 (also available with chicken). The nearest location to the Strip is about seven miles west at the corner of Sahara and Ft.
