LVA Review

This restaurant was reviewed in the March 2010 LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. The Palm (Happy Hour)—The Palm restaurant in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace has always had a value element in its “Businessman’s Lunch” that we’ve recommended many times over the years, but the excellent food there is fairly pricey otherwise. That’s what makes its current “Prime Time” happy hour such a powerhouse—it’s the same great food at an absolutely amazing discount. Prime Time runs Mon.-Fri. from 4:30 to 6:30 pm and again from 9:30 till closing. There was some confusion when we were there about whether or not you’re required to sit at the bar, but it’s no big deal either way (though it’s cool to sit on the mall patio if you can). During the happy hour, several appetizers are $3.50 per plate. This includes Kobe sliders, veal parm sliders, filet mignon sandwiches, calamari, even the Palm’s vaunted crab cakes. Additionally, clams on the half-shell are $1 apiece and giant shrimp are $2. For starters, this is without question the best play on raw oysters in town. These bluepoints, served with cocktail sauce and horseradish, are better than any of the oysters we’ve written about in recent issues (Coachman’s, M Resort, Seablue). As for the $3.50 plates, they’re the real deal, with three Kobes, three crab cakes, etc., per order—that’s $1.17 per portion and they come with chips on the side. There’s no deal on the drinks, so they get you back a bit there (beers start at $6.50, wine and martinis $12), but you definitely win in this trade. One more note. This is apparently not a Las Vegas-only thing. If you’re near a Palm in L.A., New York, Orlando, etc., you can get a Las Vegas Top Ten deal without even being here.
