Vegas with an Edge

Anthony Curtis

Anthony Curtis is the most recognized and quoted Las Vegas expert in the world. He's appeared on dozens of television programs and been quoted by major periodicals around the world.

Anthony moved to Las Vegas in 1978, shortly after he turned 21. As a young scuffler without much of a bankroll, he had to rely on his gambling skills, street smarts, and casino promotions, loss leaders, and inadvertent largesse. In the process of taking advantage of every coupon, steak special, and drink discount in town, he became an authority in navigating Vegas on the cheap. It didn't take him long to realize that plenty of Las Vegas visitors and locals could profit from his expertise and advice. Thus, in 1983, the Las Vegas Advisor newsletter was born.

Today, 35 years, he's written 400 issues of the monthly LVA, published more than 100 books, and oversees the thousands of web pages on this site.

Vegas News & Updates
You've probably noticed that we're going through some launching pains. The new LasVegasAdvisor.com is a huge project that ran into a lot of barriers over several years of development and it's still far from complete, but we're up and running. Yep, a whole lot of things can go wrong at the [...]

Local Corner - Yonaka Modern Japanese

Local Corners
Local Corner—Yonaka Modern Japanese 4983 W. Flamingo, 702-685-8358 The best way to describe the food at Yonaka is “fancy Japanese.” By that we mean they like to add twists and enhance their dishes with different flavors. Even the sushi, for example, is prepared with crazy extras like candied g [...]

Local Corner - Tasty Grill

Local Corners
Local Corner—Tasty Grill 4140 S. Durango Dr., 702-476-5556 We monitor all the national “best-of” dining lists to see if a Las Vegas restaurant or meal makes the cut, or to learn more about a place we might have overlooked. It’s rare that we run into an out-and-out surprise, but that happened [...]

Local Corner - Bagel Café

Local Corners
Local Corner—The Bagel Café 301 N. Buffalo Dr., 702-255-3444 Last year we wrote about Weiss Deli and one of our favorite delis has always been Bagelmania, both on the east side. The Bagel Café is where the west-siders go for breakfast, bagels, smoked fish, and sandwiches, all served in big porti [...]

Local Corner - Chada Street

Local Corners
Local Corner—Chada Street 3839 Spring Mtn. Rd., 702-579-0207 In last year’s December issue, we featured Chada Thai. Exactly one year later it’s Chada Street. Concurring with the ELV review, we rate both among the best in town, but we prefer Street for its food selection and the more laid-back [...]

Local Corner - Hiroyoshi

Local Corners
Local Corner—Hiroyoshi 5900 W. Charleston Blvd., 702-823-2110 We’re sushi-sensitive around here. While appreciative of the bargain AYCE deals, we understand that there are multiple levels of sushi quality and a deal on the high end is also something to watch for. Lucky for sushi purists, somethi [...]

Local Corner - Westside Bistro

Local Corners
Westside Bistro 710 W. Lake Mead, 702-924-2115 We’d be willing to make a bet that this place isn’t what you think it is. It’s not a fancy French restaurant. It’s not even exactly a restaurant. The Westside Bistro is a school, or more precisely, the training lab of the MGM Resorts Culinary Ac [...]

Local Corner - Violette’s Vegan Organic Eatery & Juice Bar

Local Corners
Violette’s Vegan Organic Eatery & Juice Bar 8560 W. Desert Inn Rd., 702-685-0466 Vegan is the new sushi in Las Vegas—whereas once there were almost none, now vegetarian and vegan restaurants can be found all over the city. We’re pretty much avowed carnivores at LVA, so we haven’t given t [...]

Local Corner - Battista’s Hole in the Wall

Local Corners
Battista’s Hole in the Wall 4041 Linq Ln., 702-732-1424 This old-time spaghetti eatery has been operating in the same location since 1970 and lines up well with Las Vegas’ other Italian throwbacks: Bootlegger, Casa Di Amore, Chicago Joe’s, the Italian-American Club, and Nora’s. The gimmick [...]

Local Corner - Weiss Deli

Local Corners
Weiss Deli 2744 N. Green Valley Pkwy., 702-454-0565Many Las Vegans consider Weiss the best deli in Las Vegas. Think of what you’d expect to find in a Jewish deli and you’re a big favorite to find it here: sandwiches galore, including corned beef, pastrami, roast beef, turkey, brisket, salami, to [...]

Local Corner - Echo & Rig

Local Corners
Echo & Rig 440 S. Rampart Blvd., 702-489-3525 This is the place for people who love steakhouses, but are fed up with fancy steakhouse prices. Echo & Rig keeps prices down by offering several non-traditional cuts, such as hanger, flat iron, skirt, spencer, and flank steaks, for under $30. P [...]

Local Corner - Yui Edomae Sushi

Local Corners
Yui Edomae Sushi 3460 Arville St., Ste. HS, 702-202-2408 This one’s pretty easy to summarize: If you want the best-quality sushi in town and don’t mind paying the price, this is your place. As described in the ELV excerpt, Yui was created and is overseen by the chef who made Kabuto Las Vegas’ [...]
