For 10 days it was family time for us, trading the hustle and bustle of our life in Vegas for the whirlwind of activities in Columbus, GA., where we were helping the Frugal Princess family and other relatives and friends celebrate grandson Zachary’s high school graduation.
Zachary plans to continue living at home and begin attending Columbus State University in August. That allows him to keep working at his karate studio, a part-time job he has held and loved since he was 14. He is now a 2nd degree black belt, working up to the next level.
Zach is very active in his church (Baptist) and is looking forward to a week-long mission trip this summer to work with American Indians in North Carolina. Ever since the youth group worked in a Florida Haitian community last summer, his passion has been missions and his goal is to find his place in this field.
He reminds Brad and me so much of my late minister father. Every since Zach was just a little boy, he would “work” a room full of people, going around and introducing himself and chatting up anyone who would listen to him. After one of these occasions when he was 4 or 5, Brad remarked that he was going to be either a politician or a minister!

This is certainly not meant to be negative or anyway in a mean spirit and I of course love to go to a casino, but I was wondering what your Baptist Minister father would say about your gambling status? I am also a Baptist and of course I was raised to believe “almost” everything was wrong (according to my father), and since I have since come out of. Thanks kindly.
Jean, congratulations on winning the ultimate prize,a great grandson!!!!
Congratulations Zach!
Thanks for all the years you have provided sports fees, martial arts fees, camp fees, dance lessons, gymnastics lessons, music lessons, vacations, mission trip fees, trips to Holland to play soccer, or whatever other activity in which the kids were involved…. The kids are well rounded because of their Grandma and Poppy!
Love, the Frugal Princess
Congratulations to Zach! Sounds like he is one young man that will excel in whatever he chooses to do in the future.
Congratulations on your grandson’s graduation, Jean. You have every reason to be proud! He sounds like a very remarkable young man.
Congrats Zach and of course congrats to the proud Grandparents! It is sooooo nice to hear about positive kids when many times all you hear is the negative….
