Las Vegas Real Estate:  “Investors still buying, but home prices keep dropping. ”   We had been seeing the housing market here in Las Vegas sink lower and lower for 3 years, but had resisted the temptation to invest in any real estate no matter how much it seemed like a super bargain.  Too old, we thought, to take on the hassle of being a landlord.  However, this last July an opportunity came up that we just couldn’t refuse.  Good friends of ours were looking to rent a condo in our condo complex, and a 3-bedroom in excellent condition came on the market just around the corner from ours.  It had sold for $230,000 just five years ago.  We got it for just less than 1/3rd that amount, and had instant dependable tenants.  So far so good, this being landlords!

Ten Things Not To Do In Las Vegas – Some good advice here!

A great  advantage play for those with very very deep pockets –  Oops, Massachusetts just plugged that loophole – but there are some links within that article that might get you thinking about future possibilities.

Vegas Pools – These are all nice, but I like the two heated pools just steps outside our condo door.  Makes it easy for us to get our exercise almost every evening.  Too bad we have too many friends to invite you all to join us during this wonderfully warm autumn!

Why I don’t “fit” well  in Vegas any more – So here’s the reason I sometimes feel so old!

From the R-JPastor was gambling addict.  When I recently read that a highly-placed well-respected Catholic priest in Summerlin was found to have stolen $650,000 from the church over the last decade, I  immediately guessed that a gambling addiction was to blame.  And in yesterday’s newspaper it was confirmed – and the game was video poker.  So sad – and a warning for all of us  that no one is exempt from the danger of gambling turning from simple entertainment to an uncontrollable addiction.

Love reading your columns. We visit Vegas once or twice a year. I’ve just learned that Boyd gaming has purchased I.P in Biloxi. We live in Alabama and visit Biloxi a lot
so this is good news for us who love visiting Boyd Gaming
properties. They are more generous with free rooms than
many of the other casino’s. We love going to Sam’sTown in
Tunica, Ms. However, that’s twice as far than Biloxi. Take care.

Thankyou for referencing the addiction video poker has become for many people. Once again it is proven that gambling can ruin you financially and is only for fun. I hope people dont think that by practicing these games online, that they will make money gambling. Only the casino is making money, while you are being entertained. I hope he writes a book about how easy it was to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars gambling. Amen.
