I want to answer a comment someone posted under my Feb. 20th post about “Frugal VP – the Book.” (To access reader comments and my “comments on the comments” you must click on the title of a particular entry. I wish there were a way you could access all the… comments with one click, but right now that is not possible with this particular blog software.) This player said that I don’t address the concerns of someone who wants to play for big jackpots rather than long-term positive results.
Here is my answer:
My goal is to put out gambling information to help players maximize their playing potential, but I have never said that everyone MUST use every bit of that information. Some people may only use the suggestion that you always play with a slot club card. This is better than not doing that. This person who wrote the comment has chosen to take some of my suggestions, i.e., checking paytables. That is good!!! Whatever good ideas you get from my writing and put them in practice, you will probably lose less money than if you didn’t know them. Don’t feel “guilty” if you don’t put into practice every idea I put out.
However, I am never going to spend a lot of time – and words – recommending that players deviate from the best winning strategies. I put out information that gives you the best chance to win more, lose less, or at least make your money last longer in a casino. However if you have another goal, like winning big jackpots at the expense of long-term wins, you will not find much encouragement in my writings. I don’t judge you negatively, but I don’t feel people need my help with doing things “their own way.” So my writings will continue to show the directions to the “higher road.” Use as many of these ideas as you can or wish to; ignore those that don’t fit your individual goals.
In any case, we can still be friends!
There is info out there on maximizing Royals for any particular pay table. Of course long term payback suffers mightily if you follow them, but thrill seekers may want to give them a look. Also if you can find one of the chase the royal machines that happily offer you a cut in payback for a 1000+ to 1 shot at a royal for every high pair, you might that to be a fun game too. All that being said I am FIRMLY entrenched in the squeeze the EV until it hurts camp. Using the tools I learned from Jean and several others Jen and I have have coasted on our bankroll for 12 years without adding any reserve cash. Jeans approach is THE one to adopt for long haul gamblers, but I think it is also the right approach for anyone wanting to have the best “shot” at a big payout. The longer the bankroll is in action the more chances there are for a royal.
Jean,
I really like the new format. It is much easier to read and navigate.
Yours,
Al
