JULY VEGAS PROMOTIONS NEWS

Perhaps I should just write an on-going blog called Promotional Perils.  Casinos seemed to want to provide me with new fodder every month!

BOYD PROPERTIES (The Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast, and Sam’s Town)

Lots of promo lessons here every month.  This is getting to be a monotonous pounding on the same drum here.

Not all properties under the same ownership umbrella offer the same promotions.

Check casino websites EVERY month.  Many promotions change frequently,

I wrote this last month (June):  “Different casinos may offer different multiplier days.  And each casino may have its own capping rules on the multipliers.  And there can be different caps on multipliers in the same casino depending whether it is a “corporate” promotion (like the Young at Heart) or a specific-to-that-casino promotion.  For example, at the Gold Coast you can get the mystery multiplier on the Young at Heart Wednesday for up to a cap of 10,000 points for VP.  But on multiplier Mondays in June (it might be another day another month!) you face a cap of 5000 points.  This fact might be a surprise to you if you didn’t get out your magnifying glass to read the fine print since in the past months the cap was 10,000 points.”

I may be psychic:  The Gold Coast specific-to-that-casino promotion (only for players who get the mailers) for multiple points did change – to Sundays for July.  And it’s a good thing I hadn’t put away my magnifying glass; the 10k cap is back for that AND the 4th of July.   (A rare promotion change for the better.  I’m in shock!)   Both had a * for VP that reminded you to look at the bottom of the page of your mailer.

And another change: Usually we could use food and bounce-back offers we got in our Gold Coast mailers at all 4 of Boyd’s non-downtown properties.  This month it looks like Suncoast has been dropped off here – and perhaps if you play at Suncoast, you get a separate mailer?

Lesson learned: Always read the fine print.

Lesson to keep learning: Navigating multiple-point promotions is like going through a mine field. For example: When to swipe on the day you want to play for multiple points:

Boyd Properties – BEFORE you start playing or you are out of luck.

Stations – Swipe anytime that day, before or after you play, and you will be okay.

SOUTH POINT

Doesn’t seem that there are multiple points here on July 4, as is the usual promotion on holidays – unless they are waiting until the last-minute to announce it.

TUSCANY SUITES & CASINO

Example of a changing promotion:  The monthly senior 20% discount changes to a different outlet each month; it moves to the gift shop for the month of July.  Good timing for us.  Daughter Angela and granddaughter Kaitlynn are coming to town and they have never seen a comp in a gift shop they had trouble using.

PALMS

Check Scot’s Players Club Bonus Points often, especially the first few days of the month. If you had been doing this the last few months you would have found some new multi-point promotions being introduced at the Palms.

And to answer your questions:  No, I have NO details about what will happen when Stations takes ownership of the Palms “in the 3rd quarter of this year.”  Name change?  (Although I like the sound of Palms Station.)  Will they change the players club to the Stations Boarding Pass?  Will they downgrade or improve VP machines?  But you can count on my covering all this the minute I know anything definite!

Thanks, Jean, as always for your useful tips.
Often- I can only check (up to the day before my trip) – on casino websites, etc, for any promotional multipliers, etc, that I may plan on playing.

Otherwise, I usually double-check at the casino (if I’m staying there), or when I visit in person.

The guy who will be running the slot department at Palms Station is on record as saying that fullpay video poker is a “loss leader” that has no place in a casino that is trying to make money. The wrongness of that viewpoint is breathtaking, but it must be said, just about every casino in Vegas seems to be thinking that way, too. So visit your favorite FPDW machine at the Palms soon (before it’s too late) and kiss it a tearful goodbye.

Were surprised to get a Suncoast mailer this month as we haven’t played there in a couple of years. It had some much different stuff in it than the Gold Coast mailers that we got a few days later. Especially the dining offers that they are no longer giving coupons for. You have to check at the dining locations and they will check your card to see if you have a ‘deal’ with them.
