The Rodeo ends tonight and all the cowboys are headed back to the ranch. And now starts the “bowling days” in Vegas – you could roll a bowling ball down many casino aisles and not hit a customer until New Year’s Eve weekend! It is one of my favorite times of the year; many casinos pull out all the stops in their promotion programs.
Check the websites for any casino you would like to visit if they have a special holiday promotion. Here is just a sampling that bargain-hunter players might enjoy:
- South Point offers “Pay Less with Your Points” December 16-24 – 50% off most anything you might be paying for in the casino: food, drinks, hotel rooms, liquor store and gift shop purchases, spa, showroom and New Year’s events, movies, bingo, and bowling. 2x points Christmas Day.
- Gold Coast is running “12 Days of Giving” December 14-25 when you can earn gift cards. Look for Brad and me there on the 19th when we can double-dip Young at Heart benefits with earning gift cards. 11x points Christmas Day for Sapphire tier and above.
- Stations have multiple- point bonuses the 15th+ 16th – 10X Points on Slots! Up to 6X Points on Video Poker! Kiosk game daily through the 21st. Holiday pull-tabs Dec. 23-Jan. 1; regulars will get them free in the mail but anyone can get one for 100 base points,
- Tuscany is offering special room rates for seniors in December. They get flat rate of $39 on weekdays & $65 on weekends. Resort fees are waived. With valid Players Club ID. Blackout dates apply. And watch for new players club tier system coming in January, with a promise of new promotions.
As usual, you need to check at the casino website and/or at the players club for details of any promotions I mention. Remember my warnings about the dangerous fine print! The devil is in the details, as they say.

A Personal Note: I want to thank everyone who have sent early birthday greetings with their regrets that they won’t be able to come to the Frugal Friends Open House Birthday Celebration. You are saying such nice things! Brad and I are SO SO appreciative that we have so many wonderful friends!
Remember you don’t have to RSVP for this Open House. Just pop in! And if you missed the invitation earlier, here it is again.
Agreed Southpoint sure was noisy for breakfast, we were seated in the back when we were in town Dec 13th.
We didn’t like the drilling but since the LVA had a B1G1 for M-F, we ate and then just took tylenol for the headache after we left….. LOL
MO
I was at the SOUTHPOINT the other day and guess what? They are still doing construction on the Buffet in stages. It has been 6 mo. I had said many mo ago that Gaughn is CHEAP and does not close the Buffet for 3-4 weeks. I was criticized by someone who said it’s very detailed and complicated and must be done slowly. Hello. My personal opinion is that I could have built a house in 6mos. It’s a joke. I guess he (GAUGHN ) gets away with it.
Charles, back in June I noticed that Boyd’s web site was giving me comped weeknight rooms at Sams Town, any time I wanted them through the end of the year. I could never get an explanation why; my play didn’t justify it. But we’d been loyal customers for several years, so I booked some free stays for free… the last one is right after Christmas. But the recent changes they’ve made have been to screw people exactly like us – out of towners who can’t possibly earn enough tier points to qualify for Sapphire which they now require for promotions. So while we’ll stay there one last time, I don’t plan to give them a dime of action. And that will end our loyalty to Boyd.
What is it with these loyal Boyd players? if there is limited benefits why keep going? There are other Casino’s (Stations and Southpoint)
Here’s some more on Deb Bright’s post about the free buffets for tier points at Orleans.
The eligible dates are mostly Mondays and Fridays in the second half of December, and some have already passed. For Video Poker players, on a game in the 98% payback range such as pNSU Deuces Wild, it’s approximately $45 coin-in and an expected loss of about fifty cents per tier credit, so it doesn’t sound like a bad deal. The calculations are described in my previous posts.
Of course, since tier credits all expire on January 1, there’s not much incentive to earn more tier credits in December unless you’re close to the next higher level. So this provides an additional reason.
But watch out if they decide that you’re one of those loathsome “advantage players.” Here’s official rule No. 8, cut-and-pasted verbatim:
“8. Boyd reserves the sole and absolute discretion to determine if a player is an
“advantage player,” and therefore ineligible to participate in the Promotion, or
to have his/her ability to participate in the Promotion otherwise limited. Any such
“advantage player” who is already a B Connected member prior to the
commencement of the Promotion may be notified by Boyd prior to the
commencement of the Promotion of any such ineligibility or limitation
determination. Otherwise, any such “advantage player” will be notified by Boyd
of any ineligibility or limitation determination as soon as possible after such
determination is made. An “advantage player” is described as a skilled or
knowledgeable player who will find legal ways to gain mathematical
advantages while gambling.”
That should put us all in the proper festive mood.
Happy holidays and good calculating to all–except you advantage players.
Room rates on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are surprisingly low, but Dec. 30 amd 31 and Jan. 1 are stratospheric. You will pay an average of $500 a night if you want to have your New Year’s on the Strip, and about $200 at Boyd, Stations, etc. You will usually have to buy three nights, too.
A couple of years, the family and the gang decided to have New Year’s in Vegas on Dec. 25 and Christmas at home on Jan. 1. Who needs the tyranny of the calendar anyway!!!
Jean, do Boyd promotions continue to be only “for Sapphire tier and above”? Boyd has lost my loyalty because as a non-local, I can’t possibly earn enough tier points to get out of the Ruby level. They’ve stopped giving me free room offers and bonus play, and now I can’t earn any promotional stuff at all.
Orleans is offering free buffets if you earn 1,2 or 3 tier points throughout December. See their website for the specific dates that this offer is valid.
have a great one Jean in many many more!
Wishing Jean a very Happy Healthy Birthday with many more to come!
We would have loved to be at your party, but we won’t be to Vegas until mid January.
