Senior Promotions

Hi Jean:  I am turning 50 at end of Oct and planning to go to LV for my big day (I live in SoCal) because I want to take the pain out of turning 50 by collecting some senior cards/discounts in LV dammit!! What do you consider the best clubs/deals for a newly minted senior going to LV to ‘celebrate’ the big 5-0?

Hey, turning 50 isn’t so bad – I survived that milestone and the #60 AND #70 one too!  When you forget something or make a mistake, you can just say you were having a senior moment and people forgive you easier!

But, now, on to the practical stuff.

Most senior benefits are geared to Vegas locals,  but with proper planning  a tourist can glean some of the benefits.  The Stations/Fiestas have Senior 50Plus Wednesdays with 5x points, a drawing,  a free slot tournament, and 1/2-off points on all meals from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Silverton has the Seniors 50+ Club with special buffet prices and drawings.

The Coast Casino properties have Young at Heart, 50+  promotions on specific days with varying benefits at each casino – The Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast, and Sam’s Town.  The days and benefits may change each month, but can include food specials, discount movies, and bonus points.

Some of these senior promotions are on-going but be aware that the benefits can change from month-to-month.  I know of no resource that exclusively tracks senior promos, although Scot Krause’s page  here at this site will often include multiple-point information for seniors as well as for the general gambling population.  The best way to get the details of a particular promotion in advance  is usually to visit the casino’s Web site, although I have found that they often don’t put up the information very far in advance.  If you are actually in a casino, look for brochures at the players club booth.

I am sure there are other senior promotions besides the ones I have mentioned above.  This would be a good time for you, my dear readers, to give additional information in the Comment section below.  Let’s help each other out to be more knowledgeable players.

My husband and I are both 50+ and used the “Young at Heart” at the Orleans last December (it was a Tuesday that month). He went to an afternoon showing of “Blind Side” for $3. We also had the B1G1 buffet for lunch. I know that the B connected will answer any questions by email, I have used this great service last month about an upcoming promo for Dec ’10.
They emailed back the next day.

I am sure they could answer about the downtown properties and if you ask them to inquire those properties for you, they will research it and get back to you.

    Jean,
Boyd, the owner of the Coast properties & three Downtown properties Fremont, California, Main Street Station) just combined the two groups’ players cards into one: B-Connected. When I emailed them, they directed that I take my Coast card to any of the players clubs’ booths, and they would transfer my points to my B-Connected account. (I have both players club cards.)
I’m curious if they will be extending the Coast Casino senior promotions you mention to the Downtown properties, too. Guess I’ll have to ask when I get there next month.

From reading Jean’s book, just apply this: “Just Ask” for senior discounts. I have found that in many situations, folks offer senior discounts that are not widely advertised, and I can luck out 🙂 A courteous question can reap benefits. I use this for everything from Casinos to Carpet Cleaners! Thanks, Jean, for this valuable life lesson!!
