A ‘Better Late than Never’ THANK YOU for sharing your stories and knowledge over the years. When I signed up for the LVA back in the mid-90’s I was definitely “Clueless in a Casino”. Lord knows how much farther my gambling budget was stretched thanks to “The Frugal Gambler” alone. Was never wired (interested or intelligent enough) to get to the point of advantage play but you and the rest of LVA staff have helped me enjoy many casino trips and go home happy no matter the results. It was great reading about your trip to Cherokee. I and my wife have been followers of yours for many years, and thanks for all the great advice. I was at Cherokee when you were there. I sat down on a VP machine and commented to a lady beside me, “has anybody ever told you that you look just like the Queen of Comps, Jean Scott.” To my great surprise it was you! You were so kind and friendly to talk with me and my wife. Meeting you was the best win I have ever had in a casino. Thanks so much for being the great person you are.

Thanks for sharing this chapter of your casino visits. Sorry to hear about Brad’s unexpected adventure. I agree that a casino is a good place for this to happen.
We are leaving for Las Vegas today. I wonder what kind of trip we will have? In any case we are taking advantage of all our comps and multiple point days. Non-gaming entertainment is planned for the day when we have the least advantage. I forgot to make restaurant reservations on Open Table but midweek should be manageable. But I will look into it just as soon as I finish this comment!

So sorry for your scare. I had a similar incident with my mom several years ago at Delaware Park casino. The excellent security staff there brought her to me safe and sound, but not until I had experienced several very anxious moments.

It’s a shame you never eat in town. A change often does me good even when I have comps. We had a very good breakfast at Peter’s Pancakes the last time we were in Cherokee with service that was better than any of the restaurants in the casino.

It seems like the salient feature of every casino trip I’ve taken in the last year or so has been, “Wow, this used to be a lot better.” That was apparently your reaction as well. I’ve also had those feelings of gratitude when a decent hit turned a horribly losing trip into a moderately losing trip–and I’ve been reminded of when I used to have, God forfend, WINNING trips.

So twenty years ago, or even ten, we would go to Vegas (or some other casino area), have a great time, enjoy terrific food and comfortable accommodations, and (gasp) WIN MONEY. Now it’s, “I hope this doesn’t suck too badly and we don’t get killed at the machines.”

Whee.
