August Vegas Promotions

I am happy that a lot of players are finding this monthly series helpful to them.  I see many of you are taking my advice to be very flexible.  Out-of-towners are looking to find a way to move their play away from the Strip when they can’t find good options there, utilizing rental cars, shuttles, taxis, buses, or even their own two feet.  This is the way we did it for many years, back before we moved to Vegas, and many smart gamblers are still doing it today.

I want to emphasize that this isn’t meant to be a comprehensive list.  Obviously there are hundreds of promotions going on in town all the time.   My main goal here is to share plays that may fit the needs of out-of-towners but often are publicized only locally.   And some of these promotions may appear only in local mailings received by customers and may not be known to other locals who don’t play in those casinos and thus don’t receive these mailers.  None of the promotions will require that you be a regular player at that casino unless I specifically mention that fact.

Some have asked whether it pays to buy a local paper when you are in town.  The locals casinos do advertise promotions in the LV R-J, especially Stations and South Point, but you can usually get that same information on their Web sites.  Stations Casinos does frequently offer bonus points, but usually with only a few days’ notice in advance.  This is announced in a newspaper ad, but would also be on their Web site and Scott would list it on the LVA list, so you could check those places often.  Silverton and the Palms sometimes run newspaper ads, but they usually don’t contain all the details you might need/want.  And see Tuscany below, for a valuable coupon that might make buying a Friday newspaper a frugal move.

TUSCANY

Some changes here for August although the Gift Card promotion continues on Mondays.  Earn 1000 base points and get one $10 gift card, max of 6 cards per customer. (You keep the base points, by the way, since you do not “redeem” them for these cards.)  We get Wal-Mart or Smith grocery store cards (the latter also good for Food4Less stores), but there are other cards available.  I don’t know the other choices.  Perhaps someone here can list them in the Comments.

A new promo called “Play and Get Soda” runs on the 12^th and the 26^th.  Earn 200 base points for a 6-pack of Coke or Diet Coke, limit of 4 per customer.  Also there are new requirements for the Tuesday Wingo games:  200 base points = one Wingo card, max 3 cards per session.  Start earning at 10 a.m., sessions at 2, 4, 6, and 8 p.m.

Check out new food and drink specials throughout the property.   Plus there are new entertainment offerings at the T-Spot Lounge, including free Salsa dance lessons on Sundays and a show on Friday and Saturday nights for which you can pay a discounted price if you use your comp dollars.  This place is hoppin’ in the evening, especially on the weekends.  We don’t do much hoppin’ these days, but perhaps some of you still do!

And a final bonus for this casino – Friday’s Review-Journal regularly carries a coupon for the highly-regarded Italian restaurant Tuscany Gardens.  $20 off with minimum $40 food purchase, must be 21+, and one coupon per couple per day.  You can use multiple coupons for a group, i.e., 6 people could use 3 coupons.  Restaurant opens at 5 p.m.

SILVERTON

A very frugal dining option for those age 50+ is offered on Monday Senior Days.  With a players card which has a senior sticker, you pay only $5 for their buffet, open from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.  This is one of Brad’s and my favorite buffets and we usually have the sauerkraut, pork, and mashed potatoes combo. Yummy!  It is also famous for their strawberry shortcake.  Seniors also can enter drawings that day, and anyone can play Blingo Bingo.  See details on their Web site for all their promotions.

PALMS

On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday they continue their “Play, Earn, and Win” promotion. August 1-15 you can earn kitchen “stuff.”   Good news for some of us (like me who doesn’t do kitchen) is that August 17-31 you can earn free slot play instead of “stuff.”  Details about how much play earns how much free play probably won’t be available until the 17^th, but they advertised on mailers that you can “earn over $200 per day.”

Tuesdays in August is a Swipe and Win promotion, and they advertise a Play and Buffet promo (earn a designated number of points for a free buffet) you can do on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  See details for these promotions in the hallway around the corner from the players club.

HARD ROCK

Two promotions this month:  The “Prize is Right” on Monday and Tuesday is probably another kiosk game like last month.   (I haven’t been there yet to check it out.)  My mailer says:  “Earn one prize for every 250 slot points earned or every 600 table points earned.  Maximum of 5 redemptions per day.”  Not sure if they take the points off for this one.  Can someone comment if they find out for sure.  The kiosk game in July gave us mostly free play prizes, from $5 to $50 but occasionally food credits.

The second one is an envelope promo called “Free Play Frenzy,” running on Wednesdays and Thursdays all month.  “Earn one envelope every 250 points earned, maximum of 3 envelopes per day.”  If this is like those in the past, you choose envelopes from a box at the players club desk.  And if the name of the promo is accurate, the prizes should all be free slot play.  We’ll see!
