Losing at VP

When you are in a long losing streak, there is the strong tendency to look for a reason.  Some have mentioned that the casinos have “tightened up the machines.”   If you are playing in some Indian casinos or some states where they have a different type of video poker that is not random, this might be the case.  However, if you are playing in a highly regulated state, like Nevada, Mississippi, New Jersey, or Louisiana, you would know whether this is true by looking at the paytables –  since to lower the return, they must downgrade the paytables.

The Other Side of the Coin

My recent check-cashing jackpot has generated a lot of discussion, both in the Comments section and private e-mails and conversations.  Although most people are genuinely happy to hear such good-luck stories, there are always a few who complain that I talk too much about the positives of video poker play and ignore the negatives.

Harrah’s LV Buffet Promo

Most of the eat-all-day-for-one-price casino buffet promotions might not appeal to many visitors. After all it can be pretty boring eating at the same buffet for all your meals, even if it is a good one. However, the recent promo running at the Las Vegas Harrah’s properties solves that problem.

Gambling Goals

I promised you one last – at least for a while – discussion on the subject of what to do when one of your favorite casinos downgrades their video poker schedules. This has to do with your goals, a subject I have discussed off and on in my writings for years, beginning with book #1, The Frugal Gambler, published…. can it be…TWELVE years ago. (Time does fly when you are having fun!)

Continuing to Discuss the Puzzle

Let’s continue our discussion about when/whether to turn down a good offer when a casino has downgraded their best VP machines. This is really a common decision we have to make, whether it is about an out-of-town casino where we play only occasionally or one right here in our hometown of Las Vegas where we may have played regularly for years.

This really isn’t a new dilemma.

Wow!!! No Longer Depressed!!!

For several days now I have been checking my last post and was so disappointed that there were no comments; no one seemed to be interested in our “big decision.” In fact, I started wondering if anyone was really interested in my babblings here. Maybe I should continue with my gradual retirement and discontinue this blog.

However, today I did a check of the blog Spam file, something I have to do every few days
