Bumps in the Casino Road

With casinos, you would be wise to not depend on the word “usually.”  However,“exceptions” is a term you do need to look for.

Usually when you get an e-mail offer from a casino or see it on their Web site, you don’t have to print it out.  It will be in the casino’s computer when you go  to redeem it – most of the time.  However, that one time it isn’t and you lose the offer – then you will see the value of printing out all offers so you have “proof.”  I do the same with e-mails from hosts – so I have confirmation numbers, promises of particular comps or other benefits, just in case my host  has forgotten what he/she had told me or isn’t on duty (or no longer works at that property, which happens frequently these days).

Usually coupons have printed on them all the information you need.  But often the exceptions require a magnifying glass to read them in the fine print.  Is a food coupon good on holidays?  As I was looking over my November food coupons for Thanksgiving choices, I noticed most had the holiday exclusion.

And as far as promotions, there are no “usuals” at all.  Not only do the details differ from one casino to another they often differ in one casino from what they did the last time.   And they are full of exceptions.   I have talked in the past about the “sticker epidemic,” with casinos exempting many machines from some or all promotions.  And it always pays to go to the players club and, if available,  get a copy of the rules of any promotion.  If this isn’t available, you need to question a boothling.  What about wild-card and multi-line  games?  Are there different bonus point values and limitations for video poker than for slots?

It is not a smooth road out there!

Jean, I was looking over a recent offer from Harrah’s Reno on multiple points days, and as you know Diamond and Seven Star get mucho extra points. But like you said, READ THE FINE PRINT. They listed multiple types of games which did not qualify. Naturally, ALL VP was excluded!! If they really want me to travel from Austin, TX to Reno, they’ll make it worth my while re free flight, free show, free food, etc. I am Diamond at 30,000 point level. But thanks for the advice – simply reminds me to do what I keep telling myself to do.

Boy did I ever find that out Wednesday when playing at the Palms for a long while to get multiple points and gift cards and play $1 VP Bingo only to find out they would not honor multiple points coupons Sunday – Thursday during November. I read the sign AFTER I had played!! So, not only I now read the fine print, but check for new signs at the slot booth PRIOR to beginning my casino session!!! However, I did win $100, get a $25 gift card and a much needed quads stamp on my Bingo card – so no blood, no foul!!

I always like to read of others good fortune on your blog. I thought I would share my recent happenings. Oct 24 I hit a $4000 royal and approx an hour and 10 minutes later I hit another on the same machine. Both were in diamonds and oddly enough I held the same three cards (KQJ), they were in different order but the same three none the less.
