Flak in the “Comments”

I’m getting some flak from a few readers who think I have deserted the low roller since we now play at a higher level than quarters.  And some others complain that I am “too unrealistic” about playing skillful video poker.  (Remember to keep your comments civil even when you disagree with me.  I won’t “Approve” a comment that uses vulgar language or rants and raves endlessly on the same topic!)

Here are some of my random thoughts about each of these complaints, most of them just repetitions of things I have said….many times over and over…in the past.  First, “frugal” does not mean cheap and does not describe just low-level gambling.  “Frugal” means getting good value for your money anywhere and at any level of gambling play.

September Vegas Promotions

Last month I talked about using the newspaper to look for casino offers, but recently I found a new resource that might help you avoid  dirty newsprint staining your hands. Go online to the R-J’s Marketplace Ad and Coupon Search, type in “casinos”, and you will find all sorts of lists, including inserts, coupons, ads, and even special sections.

August Vegas Promotions

I am happy that a lot of players are finding this monthly series helpful to them.  I see many of you are taking my advice to be very flexible.  Out-of-towners are looking to find a way to move their play away from the Strip when they can’t find good options there, utilizing rental cars, shuttles, taxis, buses, or even their own two feet.  This is the way we did it for many years, back before we moved to Vegas, and many smart gamblers are still doing it today.

I want to emphasize that this isn’t meant to be a comprehensive list.

July Vegas Promotions

This is the monthly promotions list I promised so both out-of-towners as well as Vegas locals can have more information to help them find better plays.  Some caveats here:  This is by no means an exhaustive list but just what I have found in my own mailers, my treks around town, and my Internet research.  I will not be giving complete details – you need to check casino Web sites and make in-person inquiries, especially since casinos can be guilty of changing the rules mid-stream.

Another thing to keep in mind is that this is not a basic tool.

Good Free Play Choices

Some people have asked whether we play differently if we are using Free Play rather than cash out of our pocket since it is the “casino’s money.”  Do we ever “take a shot” at a machine we wouldn’t normally play because it is “free” play.

First of all, we don’t consider Free Play the “casino’s money.”

Casino Benefit Changes

We will soon be left with a large – and useless – collection of tokens for the Palms car wash.  It is closing the end of the month.  Brad will really miss it – he likes to keep the Frugal Breeze spanking clean and shiny.  If you see us in a casino, ask for some tokens – Brad will carry some in his pocket and I’ll have some in my purse.  However, I’m not counting on it being operational right to the end of June.  It always broke down frequently – and I can’t see them spending money to repair it if it breaks down now.

Lots of other changes
